Time to MAN up and move to LPL

A runway closed at MAN tonight causing diversions to LPL.

A permanent move for BA flights would be welcome given the state of MAN.

There were a small number of diversions this morning but the runway was reopened around lunchtime.

No thanks for LPL, that too is a miserable airport, its rather cramped with very expensive, poor quality catering.

Why not land on the second runway at MAN?

23R is not open this evening. We held at DAYNE for 15 minutes (very unusual to hold before coming in to MAN) and then landed on 23L which is not used for landings normally so involved a long wait at the end for a gap to back track. The hole in 23R appeared about 1100 apparently.

No security wait at all and a pleasant lounge? I admit the boarding process is tedious (they board far too early and you stand in a corridor for 20 minutes) but its seriously efficient and so much better than MAN.

Im quite amused, both by the prospect of LHR-LPL resulting in a nine-year journey back in time, and by BA launching a new LPL-MAN route.

How did it take nearly an hour to fly from LPL to MAN?

I remember Cambrian Airways BAC One Elevens on the LPL-LHR route. Did BA ever operate it in their own right?

Any plans to extend the taxiway to full length? Or are there noise issues around landing 23L?

God that brings back memories. Flew BRS CWL once. Fifteen minutes hop over the Severn bridge. Noisy buggers the 1-11.

well as you see it left the gate at 13:45 but took off around 14:00. Then did a few circle and landed at 14:30 then a 10 minutes or so taxi.

Interesting that the taxiing in MAN appears to be much higher speed than in LPL

I suspect you have only graced LPL during quiet times. I'm a regular at LPL, the security lines can be long, especially first thing in the morning. The departure lounge can be terribly crowded with little seating available, the catering is expensive, slow, and poor quality. When the terminal is quiet it is fine, but boarding can be confusing especially for those who use the airport infrequently with people often queuing in the wrong queue only realising when they hear the 'last call' for their flight.

The Aspire Lounge is often full, and usually quite noisy with groups of holidaymakers making the most of their entrance fee not realising just how loud their little party is.

Despite all its issues, give me MAN any day over LPL. The hours I've spent there over the years waiting to board an aircraft in the driving rain and wind, drenched and miserable as I finally get on board.
