i had a melt in the mouth beef cheek on my last Qatar flight that I would have ordered at a Gastro pub and been happy for it. Steaks on the other hand are a different thing and should not be served on a plane

Sorry for the delay in posting the last leg.
MIA - CUN
The flight was very uneventful, no delays, very quick flight so not much to comment on re service. However our 4hr layover was certainly not boring because it was spent trying to locate a lost wallet left on the MAD - MIA aircraft. The lady working in the AA lounge was an absolute hero and spent a good 2 hours calling cleaners and hounding customs agents to reunite us with it just in time to go to the gate. The lounge agent's help with this is probably the best perk we've had from our exec club membership!

Your next instalment is in seven days for the return legs, I guess?

No hot chocolate on the drinks menu? Why is that such a rarity?
That said, I am no aficionado of such a beverage - I like the 'chocomilk' you get from vending machines (a nostalgic throwback to my childhood and having that after swimming each week).

40 + 40 + 40 + 140 + 40 (300)
40 + 140 + 40 + 40 (260)
[ plus whatever to get back from DUB if returning to the start at LCY ]

Just leaving hotel for Cancun airport. Leaving early as there are quite bad roadworks near the airport coming from this way. Hopefully shouldn't be too bad as an earlier flight, but we saw reports of people abandoning taxis and walking with luggage as traffic was so bad. I'll do a short review of the hotel to while away some time in CUN.

Secrets Maroma Beach Review
Room wise there are regular jungle view, ocean view, swim up rooms, preferred ocean view or swim up, and ocean front either with or without swim up. The rooms are spread across 14 blocks with four floors of rooms, the ground floor of each block is swim up, with it's own pool area shared between those rooms.
We booked a preferred ocean view room.
Preferred gets you access to a bar with premium spirits, fast check in and out, a separate area on the beach, a separate beach side a la carte breakfast and lunch restaurant a Bali bed on the beach on one day, and complimentary access to the pools and sauna etc in the spa. It is worth noting that ocean view isn't really ocean view unless you get one of the top floor rooms in a preferred block or pay extra for ocean front
"Ocean view"
We aren't balcony people so we weren't fussed, but worth knowing if you are.
The hotel did a really good job of having really peaceful areas to chill of that's what you want (this is us) or if you're the life and soul of the party there are lots of activities, socialising around the swim up bar, theatre shows etc.
The food for an AI was really great. There are 7 a la carte restaurants plus some theme night buffets. You don't have to book in advance.
This link has all the menus
https://www.sunbox.app/home.php
Pretty much everything was done via the AMR app, unlocking the room, booking things etc which was really good
The service throughout the resort was brilliant, you were referred to by name by all the waiters.
The resort did have seaweed issues, as is common for the time of year but the staff had the beach pretty much clear by 9am and kept clearing all day.
We had a great time and would definitely return

Journey home
AA1262 CUN PHL
So the road works added maybe 20 mins to our journey.
checking in we were told we would have to recheck our bags at PHL, that was an unwanted surprise as we only have 90 mins at PHL.. hopefully it is not a busy airport.
There now seems to be no lounge access. We weren't offered any voucher either, so have been killing time sat at the gate with a coffee. BTW if Starbucks is your thing, rather than queue for hours at the main one, there is another branch at gate C5 with no queue.

And I don't know that AA has offered lounge access at Cancun ever (pre-COVID AA flights CUN-US didn't qualify for lounge access). Also, AA is not known for offering vouchers when there is not a lounge available. There is a pay for lounge in the terminal AA uses but it's not great.
