18th August LHR-MXP (BA566) Amazing Crew

I hope this isn't against the rules here on FT but as its so easy to post negative experiences I wanted to just say what an absolutely amazing crew it was on the BA566 flight this afternoon!

If anyone here knows them and Billie specifically who sadly is retiring on Friday please pass on our thanks again and say cabin crew like her will very much be missed by the passengers, they are very much what have made BA the airline that we all remember it was like to fly and today reminded me all that is good about stepping onto a BA plane.

I have no desire to go into detail apart from a member of the ground staff is not fit to work in any customer facing role and essentially was a bully, the crew stepped in did an amazing job of resolving the issue and making the flight memorable for all the right reasons.

I know of no other way to express my gratitude than posting on FT and hoping it gets back to them.

I will of course write to BA saying how fantastic they are but sadly it will be far to late for Billie to get that feedback.

Thank you

Probably a bit late for Billie but others you identify may get some timely recognition.

ScienceTeacher Aug 18, 2020 12:48 pm

I too was on this flight this afternoon and must say the crew were indeed fantastic. I believe a lady also hurt a nerve in her arm and the crew were indeed very sympathetic and dealt with it via the utmost professionalism.

However, I must say if you were the chap shouting at the man in the chap in a red hat - who remained calm and collected though out - I think you need to in future take a step back and evaluate how you were coming across. Everyone around us on the air gate could here you shouting “I’m a gold card holder” and “I’m in business class” and frankly whatever the situation was; raising your voice to that level and being that rude to someone is simply uncalled for. The family in front and lady behind all commented how out of order it was.

I apologise if you are not the aforementioned chap, however, given your post I think you were.

Either way, the crew were indeed outstanding and I’m glad they calmed you down.

I wonder if he was the DYKWIA merchant, the reason he posted on here was to get his version of the story out before anyone else.

Wow another https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...o-manners.html ? :D

Well this is rather dull !

LondonTechTraveller Aug 19, 2020 5:20 am

Are you able to say what the altercation was about? What did the ground staff want to happen? How did the cabin crew sort it out?

PUCCI GALORE Aug 19, 2020 5:27 am

Oh My! This is every bit as good as The Archers. If it is true it just shows that one can never be too careful - indeed these days someone is bound to have a phone primed. If not then we may get an insight as to what all the fuss was about.

aoyamaguy Aug 19, 2020 5:54 am

Given that Billie is a fairly distinctive name, I am pretty sure I was on a flight with her on Monday and would echo the above comments. She really is the best of BA and will be sorely missed.

On my flight there was a positioning flight crew member across from me in 1A (I was in 1F with no one in 1C or 1D). I couldn’t help overhear a conversation between him and Billie where it was clear that the recent goings on have been the final straw for her. It was so sad to hear this.

This could be reminiscent of the famous "Breakfast and Printers" exchange on here of some 10 or so years ago :D :tu:

Loved that thread - lots of lapsed FTers whose names live long in the memory but who don't seem to post any more :(

At least the breakfast eating printer had some sort of a conclusion.

Scienceteacher and OP have gone quiet.

I wish that the DYKWIA thread was more busy!!

With so few flying today, perhaps better to have a DYKWIOW thread. (Once was...)

Ancient Observer Aug 19, 2020 8:55 am

If there was a DYKWIOW reward, I would claim it.
Those of us now blue do not get much for free!

“Everyone around us on the air gate could here you shouting “I’m a gold card holder” and “I’m in business class”. “

Profile says Cathay Diamond and Virgin Gold but not BA Gold ? I do hope you have the right person , I guess you must be very sure you do .

DYKWIA Aug 19, 2020 11:00 am

This is great. The fastest "Like" followed by "Unlike" I've ever done. Somebody better PM flygirl68

It is better than the current endless Archers monologues of woe.

golfmad Aug 19, 2020 11:26 am

This has the capacity to be a once-in-a-decade thread to go down in FT folklore but we need the OP back next :D

No matter what the situation, if you are the sort of person who would shout out loud for everybody to hear "I am a gold card holder and travelling in business class" you are a tool of the highest order! It is completely uncalled for and ridiculous, quite frankly!

BAeuro Aug 19, 2020 5:45 pm

Maybe I’m too British, but when I get annoyed I say nothing at the time and then moan to my family and friends afterwards :D

I've heard it a couple of times and I don't exactly fly a lot so I suspect it's quite a common phenomena. The last Gold card complainer I heard couldn't believe he wasn't closer to the front of the boarding line at the gate and he was flying in ET.

IAMORGAN Aug 20, 2020 1:00 am

Well, whatever the realities of the situation (and the FT jury is out on that), this must be a good crew member as both posters agreed. If (and I say nothing of that) the OP did get wound up by the TRM/C (red cap) then the CC diffused the situation well. If it wasn’t them (maybe they happened to encounter the TRM just after they had been shouted at and had missed that part and the TRM was caught at a bad moment...) the crew still come out looking good - whichever way you look at it.

So, let’s not get caught up in investigating the whys and wherefores of a situation (and context) we know nothing about and take at face value the praise of Billie - which was the purpose of the thread.

You never know what someone is going through on a particular day - and so it’s always best if possible, in my view, to just take a deep breath and move on. Especially right now, people react to stress in a many different ways.

I used to be the same, but then I got old.

I'd never raise my voice, though.

PUCCI GALORE Aug 22, 2020 5:11 am

Now at the risk of being accused of stirring - this thread has gone awfully quiet. Was it or was it not the OP - this is so unfair as I love a good radio soap and this had all the hallmarks.

Indeed, the Purser in question has probably gone herself and I do not blame her even though she may never see this.

I do wonder however if it has sunk in yet that soon FT may have no working crew members posting any more.

I couldn't possibly comment.

On the other hand I do know this isn't the case. We may be diminished, unfortunately, but this forum is still blessed by multiple crew members, some of whom are not currently working, and some are working regularly.

Littlegirl Aug 22, 2020 5:52 am

In my personal experience it is very common for GCHs to shout at the TRMs that they are gold, this usually happens if one of their bags is oversized or they have more bags/hanging wardrobes than allowed.

For some strange reason, a feeling of entitlement I presume, some card holders believe that being a card holder doesn’t require them to obey the hand baggage rules and they often think they are the only gold onboard whereas on some flights you can have many many gold card holders.

As a SCCM you do often have to tread a diplomatic path when discussing it as you are going to be stuck onboard with an angry GCH all flight otherwise.

Well this was an anticlimax - OP never confirmed or denied he was the shouty Gold Card holder in Club

Not so much an anticlimax - more a cliff-hanger. It's odd that you brought this up today as I was thinking about this only this morning and notice that the OP has not posted anywhere on FT at all. One is forced to draw one's own conclusions.

Can I help you Aug 29, 2020 6:38 am

He was on here the next day but chose not to post, probably still trying to prise the tail from between his legs out. :D
