Wear and tear in First

I thought this was interesting from a rare First flight on a 787-9 a few weeks back (lowly Blue, burning BAPP 241 etc etc).

I can see how paying passengers moan about this stuff. Although I rarely fly in First so wasn’t sure if this was the norm?

Thankfully the crew were awesome and made it a great flight.

If that is on one of the 787s then very normal.

Pretty Common i'd say- especially that specific form of wear and tear to the material on the side panel / table housing on the 787's. Seen very similar on my last two trips (1K) since Feb.

Ok thanks both. I would hate to be special!

Interesting on the concept of "the norm" I guess. The cash price for that flight was eye watering and I could never justify it from my own cash.

I just feel privileged to be in there and I guess expect it to be spick and span.

Guess I need to read FT BA forum more!

If it is 1K on one of the 787s not sure of the reg then it has been like that since about day 2. The thickness of the materials used is like clingfilm.

It was one of the middle pair.

As a Blue getting anything starting with 1 is generally impossible.

On a recent flight to and from MEX; the seat-position and light control button symbols were completely rubbed-off. Had to guess and try-out what button does what.

Why don’t they check these things from time to time?

I seem to remember a BA documentary on TV a while back where they said they even check for the smallest of scratches in F. Clearly not....

Wasn't that in the context of new aircraft delivery?

I've only been in F on the 787s twice, but both times a chunk of my seat was being held together by duct tape.

Ah yes you may be correct.

I just found this:

Go to 11:32.

Then she goes to say they recognise the attention to detail they need to replicate into First....

This is by no means the first report of poor wear and tear in Prime2 seats on the 787s. Not all aircraft are affected but some certainly are, the biggest problem being the side light which is a delicate flower anyway but people grab it to haul themselves out of the seat and it then snaps away from the mounting. But the rest of the trim is also wearing out far more quickly than (for example) the Prime seats on the A380 even though they are older. With trim wear it is very difficult to fix between flights and yet not serious enough to take an aircraft out of rotation for it. See this post from @13901 and the surrounding comments, there are other good examples in other threads too.

I believe a fix has been found for this kind of defect.
