Earlier this year i was connecting in LHR T5. Just as i was approaching the fast track entrance, my phone - with the BP on it - shut down. I apologized to the lady in charge of the entrance while starting to look for the paper BP, tucked somewhere inside my bag. She gave a look at my bag, spotted the tag, and waved me through telling me that if I didn't find the BP the desk would print me a new one.

Yes, I use a BA gold tag on my shoulder bag. It helps me in cases like the previous one and it's easier for the airline to link the bag to the owner without the need to write on a generic tag my phone number.
When I fly Star Alliance I tend to swap tags... I would never want to upset anyone around with too many tags on my bag :p

I use bag tags as it contains a membership no and airline reference in case it gets lost. On my big suitcase I have also written my phone no but no name or address. As I sometimes have to check in my roller it’s a tag on that one for that very reason.

The big suitcase is nail polish red with plenty of stickers, including one promoting the communist party, and the roller is blue. Extremely easy to identify and the tags are not there to brag. If people choose to judge me because of it then that says more about them...

I know of individuals who dropped several tiers and continue to display their old tags. It’s none of my business that they do.

A tag is simply one I put on my bag for work so that my Director can see that I achieved some status despite his determined effort to make me travel the world for him at the very back of the plane, or cargo hold if he had his wish.

I use one in the hope that gate personnel pass me over when they are looking for people to force to check in their carry on at the gate.

This is the reason I now leave mine on - after a near miss last year where an over officious gate agent on an IB flight was hell bent on gate-checking from the start (ie gate checking all the group 1 and 2 carry-ons, or as many as she could manage). I can only presume this was simply an attempt to make their lives easier on a full-ish flight, but it was something I was extremely keen to avoid at the time (had tight timings when I landed and went HBO specifically for this reason). And happily at the last minute her colleague started intervening and trying to apply some sort of screening process (which included such scientific measures as 'look - that guy has a gold tag - quick check of his BP and let him carry on')

So from that point on I have always had mine tagged. Oh, I'm sure that some people will retain an opinion that this is one of those 'look at me' things and frankly they are entitled to have that opinion whether they have met me in person or not. It'll just happen to be a wrong opinion.

I don't really mind tbh.

As you may have guessed, I do attach my card to my roll on for the very simple reason I was getting fed up of being asked to check in my hand luggage by jobsworth gate agents which always seemed to be the case travelling from LHR - NCL.

Since making myself 'look more important', the requests have stopped.

Whether people have that opinion of me or otherwise, I don't really care.

Oh it's definitely a personal statement. My laptop bag that goes with me on almost every trip is festooned with these things. I'm actually pretty proud of how it looks

I use mine but put them inside a nice leather tag with a flap so you can't see what is inside unless you make a point of looking. I too am not a fan of putting BAEC tags on luggage for all to see (smacks a little of DYKWIA to me) but they do serve a purpose if they are needed.

As for identifying my luggage... red cases make by Jeep... very easy to identify even from 100 paces!

There is a solid case to be made for keeping a tag on rollar-boards of a decent size in the event of a tight connection with full overhead bins or smaller aircraft that require checking at the gate.

It allows staff at the first wing to quickly identify me, call my personal buttler to escort me through to the CCR, where as I sip Krug and get a foot massage, my personal transfer in a S class merc to the plane with my first suite with a separate lounge & bedroom is arranged.

I feel pity for those of you who need gold cards for anything else.

They could be worn as medals

In my senior years, as I may forget who I am, it will assist the cabin crew, ground staff, and perhaps even myself, identify me.

My 7yr old kid loves luggage tags so we save them up, stick them on our bags and he can choose and steal our tags off our backs (literally) as we go along. Its a bit of fun and an incentive for good behaviour. He gets bored of them though and tends to customize them soon enough. The looks of envy on some faces as he destroys another gold card...heh

Is that a "Do I know who I am" moment? :D

I haven't put mine on my luggage - aside from being a lowly Silver who doesn't want to look like they're trying too hard, they don't look especially secure...
