The Aviation Herald has updated its report:

“On Sep 4th 2019 the NTSB reported they have appointed an accredited representative as state of menufacture of the engines in order to assist the investigation by Spain's CIAIAC. The NTSB was told that during landing smoke filled the cabin, the source of the smoke was suspected to be one of the engines (V2533).”

Emergency landing on 5th of August

Hello there,

Someone told me about this forum and I would like to ask something. Last month, the flight BA0422 London-Valencia had an emergency landing as the cabin filled in with smoke so thick you couldn't breath properly. I was on that plane and only one month later BA contacted me and offered as an apology a voucher to be used in flights with them. I could contact three people from the same flight and it seems they're offering the same to everyone.
The thing is I don't think that's enough but I don't know if I should accept the offer or not, since that's the only thing they say.
Is there anything that can be done in order to take this further? I don't know where I can find some advice about this.

Thank you very much

Unless it can be proved to BA was negligent in some way and the emergency landing could have been avoided personally I'd be quite happy to have landed safely and still be alive.

I'm sure an official welcome will follow.

But... At the end of the day BA got you down safely in what was potentially a dangerous situation. You and your fellow passengers walked away. I imagine it was scary, however do you have any ongoing problems from the event?

What is the value of the vouchers and what are you expecting if this is not enough?

Well, while I am happy to pay tribute to the very skilled BA pilots and cabin crew who step up in these situations, I am not sure that "I flew BA and survived to tell the tale" is the marketing slogan that BA will prosper with in future years. Hopefully there will be a long-serving poster to welcome you to the BA forum.

I feel like the invisible man (see post 2) Ok I accept it was 'to the point' and a bit terse but - and it's a big wobbling but - I was rushing for a flight.

It was more a case of 'hurry up and wait' but I did renew my Global Entry using 'Enrollment on Arrival' so all is good in my world today.

Moving on from the welcome, although of course extrending my own welcome, may I return to the tragic circumstances that we unfortunately find you here (although hopefully you will find the resources and community good for other use too).

Although I understand the midst in the cabin, and having been in a number of emergencies now both in the air and also at sea, I can understand how distressing these circumstances are, I’m not aware what the cause is and I’m sure the Aair accident report will make for interesting reading and I guess this will detail the cause and we may then have a better idea if BA we’re responsible.

Air contamination (so called time events) apparently are being reported more trequently across the commercial aviation sector and the ongoing health effects are controversial, but it might be worth researching if you are having any symptoms and seeking appropriate medical help as required.

With regards to compensation, I’d echo fellow posters asking what you would consider reasonable and any ongoing effects should of course influence that. In essence, you can then decide whether to reject BA’s offer, attempt to negotiate with them or seek legal advice.

I see that there's been a further update:-
On Sep 10th 2019 Spain's CIAIAC reported the aircraft landed on Valencia's runway 12 and stopped at the turn off. The crew declared Mayday and initiated an emergency evacuation due to a possible fire on board. No injuries occurred, the aircraft sustained minor damage. Later it was found that no fire had occurred, but engine #2 (V2533, right hand) had lost all its oil. The engine was removed from the airframe and sent to the manufacturer for thorough inspection.

Thanks for that, was going to say that the pictures remind me of oil mist in an engine room, but didn’t like to speculate.

Hi and welcome to FT.

Only you know if the compensation currently offered to you is enough to resolve your experience. Everyone will be different.

If you do not feel BA's offer comes close to 'making things right', you should explore your options by getting some legal advice.

One way or another the legal advice will outline your options. Even if there aren't many avenues open to you, at least you will have satisfied yourself that you have done what you needed to.

In terms of finding the right legal advice, perhaps someone on this board will have some recommendations. Or at least can point you to a lawyer who may be able to refer you to a specialist.

The comments on local newspaper websites are always the best 😁I think they are pretty much saying what we're all thinking (apart from the more racist ones)
