Hi

About to book some LHR-JFK Business seats for next February.

Without reading 25 pages, whats the best way to maximise chances of the Club Suite? Is it particular flight numbers?

Thanks

Nearly a year in advance I honestly don't think there is any way to maximise chances of Club Suites on a route with multiple flights a day.

As far as I'm aware all the JFK flights are listed to be operated with Club Suites by then. However, the roll out has slowed as a result of covid, so all the 777 aircraft may not be done by then as originally planned. At the moment, most of the GE powered 777-200ERs are completed, so you can book JFK flights with the 49J cabin with a relatively good chance. Of course everything is subject to change.

There is absolutely no certainty 10 months out of a particular aircraft type operating a specific flight between JFK and LHR. There were regular aircraft swaps previously between 747s and 777s so there's nothing to say that a flight scheduled as a 772 won't swap to a 773, so there is always still the risk of a CW cabin appearing on a non-reconfigured 772 or 773.

As others have said, there is no certainty this far out but what you can do is book based on what is showing as CS now and hope

Probably the easiest way to do this is on Google flights and it will indicate ‘Individual Suite’ where a CS aircraft is currently scheduled.

As others have said, impossible to say this far out but I'm booked on 0117 in mid Jan which is showing as a CS equipped 773 (for now)

I'm routing the return back from Vegas in October through LAX (£150 cheaper and more TP), does anyone have any knowledge or predictions as to whether 777 will have CS?

I may decide to go for the later flight anyway, so have to pick between BA A380 or AA 777....?

thx

I do wonder why the younger 777’s keep being ignored for a refit, whilst the older 777’s have the most up to date products.

Am I right in thinking there’s a number of YMM* frames still flying around with the cabins they were delivered with?

It is very strange and you're correct - think they all still have the old blue WT/WTP seats and pretty sure they have no USB/power points available in any cabin. These aircraft often serve longer routes as are equipped with crew rest and so you'd have thought they'd be a priority, not to mention the fact they were also delivered in the early 2000s with some entering the fleet in 2009 - so relative newbies!

Five 3-class aircraft (G-YMMA/R/S/T/U) and four 4-class aircraft (G-YMMH/J/L/P) remain with the original cabins in WT/WTP and the old Rockwell Collins IFE system throughout - they will all be converted to a 3-class 48J layout with Club Suites, new seats in WT/WTP and Panasonic IFE throughout.

I agree, leaving these aircraft relatively late in the refurbishment programme is an odd decision.

Yes its an odd decision indeed. If anything those frames should have been prioritised for reconfiguration given the extremely dated cabins.

And for anyone interested, it seems that G-VIIS (a Club Suite configured 777) will operate ANU-LGW (BA2156) tonight (confirmed on expertflyer at the time of this post). The aircraft diverted to ANU on Friday as a result of the volcanic eruption in St Vincent while operating BA255 (LHR-BGI) and has been there ever since. G-YMMF operated to ANU yesterday and is due to operate the delayed BA254 service from BGI whenever it opens. Never thought we would ever see Club Suites on a Gatwick route in 2021.

77W

I’m on a LAX-LHR in June currently scheduled as a 77W.
I can tell from the seat map it’s CS, but the seat map is slightly different from the map in the wiki post, the position of the restrooms and galley looks different.
I’m also seeking advice for the best way to seat as I’m traveling solo with my twin 6 yo sons. Would be better to choose and isle seat while they occupy two window seats?

My thought on this is that if retirement dates for the older aircraft are brought forward then they haven't wasted money on refitting an aircraft that is soon retired.

The older aircraft have been refitted though. It’s the newer members of the fleet which still retain the older cabins.

G-VIIA, which features the newer cabin is getting on for 25 years old. Where as G-YMMU, which features the older cabin is under half the age at 11.8 years old.
