LH is perfectly pleasant to fly and I personally put them in the same league as BA for long haul J. Short haul J is also in the same league. I found lots of hyperbole on this thread for two airlines which are in fact very comparable for lots of aspects. The Business lounges are very comparable too, with the exception of the new Panorama lounge at FRA which is much nicer than the Galleries, SEN lounge is nice, maybe sub par compared to GF.
For the other LH group J, Swiss was disappointing. The food was not that good and the seat is not comfortable in bed mode. OS has a great reputation for their long haul J and I am very excited to try it soon.

As for German train, i suggest you come live here and use them regularly. Official figure of 2018 is 25% of long distance trains are delayed by more than 60 minutes.

From my experience I would see Business Class on BA and LH more or less on the same level. Who wins depends entirely on the individual flight (catering, crew,...).

The main reason I try to avoid BA whenever possible is this:

It is quite ridiculous that I have to go through transfer security in London when I have just been screened in Berlin. In Munich I am 100% safe not to be re-screened when arriving from a secure country. In FRA it is very likely that I will not be re-screened (unless arriving from LHR )

Indeed but that is not the airlines fault, it’s up to legislations and policy in the individual country.

In many countries considered to be secure I have, non-deliberately, got through security to discover liquids in my bag later, one has to question how effective their screening then is.

Call me crazy, but I prefer flying LH to BA. Maybe they 'bribed' me with the cheaper fares, free food and clean planes on shorthaul = )
And for sure LX 'bribed' me with the chocolates! BA doesn't even give you free bottled water, you can forget the chocolates!

Oh and I am flying to Canada next week and wasn't in the mood to fly with WT 2000 so Air Canada it is, they were exactly the same price by the way. 3200 CAD for Y return!!!
( I am sure BA and AC price fix, no US govt to destroy their collusion)

Maybe if BA actually tried to act 5 star like Lufthansa does, they would get some more of my cashish.

Not a fan of the LH business class seat. I like LH in other areas like wifi that actually works on TATL and clean aircraft

Keep your hair on..

Why is it such a big deal you chose to fly Air Canada instead of BA? I don't get it.

I’ve travelled LH J twice on those good old BD redemptions that we’re I think 30000 plus £300 or 20000 and £450.

The first was BHX-FRA-ATL-FRA-BHX. And the second was LCY-FRA-DXB with onward travel on LX to MCT then back to DXB and MS to CAI and LHR

I was statusless at the time check in in BHX mediocre, used Servisair lounge which has crisps and prepacked breakfast pastries. Middle seat free, ok breakfast service to FRA, parked in the a*** end of nowhere and spent half a day driving round FRA before worse connection experience. Ok lounge, seats fairly comfortable on the A330 in 2 2 2..empty seat.

Return pretty much much the same, vowed never to change in FRA again until next redemption.

E190 departure from LCY, Seat next to me free which isn’t guaranteed on BA, mediocre breakfast service, same poor transfer experience in FRA , lounge Ok, 747 to DXB. Business class in nose. Had the single throne seat in the middle of the nose but rows 1-4 in nose full. Lounge agent said I’d probably get better service in second or third row of main cabin part of Business class so swapped and again had a mediocre seat.

Food and drink probably a bit a bit better than CW. This was my first time to Dubai or any ‘strange’ foreign country. I asked LH what the arrivals process was and they arranged for the meet and greet service at no charge. A nice touch, met at aircraft stairs, golf buggy to visa desk, visa collected, golf buggy to immigration escort3d to baggage carousels and customs. A nice touch.

Short haul I think Club Europe wins, Lounges, Galleries Club wins, seat comfort LH slightly ahead as not a fan of CW. BA staff probably got the edge, if they don’t have the Polish they have the charm and Britishness. Lufthansa mostly helpful eg got cheese plate from First Class but ask for champagne on a breakfast flight and you’d think it was coming from their own pocket from the look on their face.. Frankfurt transfer..... I’d prefer to depart from Manchester and thats saying something but repeated the experience with a redemption.

At the time, as a Blue BD card holder for 3 x VS LHR-JFK in Economy plus £450 was a far better experience than I was use to so do feel guilty given my critique, have the satus bug no, no real incentive to move away from One World unless price was a real driving factor.

My bolding above.

Brussels Airlines definitely bribed me with the chocolates. The boxes left at the front of the cabin to help yourself to during the flight (after being offered at your seat) and then the box of Neuhaus Chocolates to take home.

I have not flown in LH long-haul J for quite some time, but am definitely not a fan of their seats. Brussels and Swiss J-seats definitely better (especially if throne seat). After CW F&B upgrade, they are probably on same level now. SH I like BA b/c more likely I will get and keep my exit row seat (LH loves pushing back curtain), but prefer LH as at least you get something to drink (they can keep their sandwich).

Indeed. For the benefit of readers less anal than us .... Lufthansa wanted a five star Skytrax rating but cannot achieve it under their guidelines with the current J seat. LH then announced a new qualifying J seat (which will not appear for a number of years and only then on a handful of planes) and Skytrax mysteriously decided that this counted as meeting the criteria for 5 stars.

I prefer BA on short haul, especially in Y, where there is BoB, yes, but also free seat selection... and a more comfortable headrest. Unfortunately, the prices for going south Europe force me to book on LH & SN.
Sometimes I would even prefer to connect in LHR than going direct on SN, but BA almost always ask 150/200 eur more for bookings to/from Italy...
Plus, even when TRN prices are close, with BA there is the added hassle of the LHR-LGW transfer
