Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

I've been demoted to Blue and my tier year starts again in June 2019.
Need to go from LHR-SIN for a wedding and ideally like to jump to silver.

Current plan is:
LHR - ARN 10 points
ARN - DOH - SIN - DOH -ARN earns 560 points
ARN - LHR 10 points

Total 580, need 20 more points and 2 more BA flights to get to silver. I have flights booked to Italy with BA booked later in the year but it's using a companion voucher which I believe doesn't count, really frustrating.
Trying to think of ways of getting those 2 extra flights and 20 points in this crazy trip.
Tried LHR-MAN-ARN but doesn't work
Any other ideas???

Have you booked the right fare bucket to get 10 TP? Those flights usually earn only 5 TP in economy.

I was looking at the fare rules for the AMS/HNL fares (ILN8C1S4) and spotted the following (my underlining):

Sales Restrictions
UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED NOTE - GENERAL RULE DOES NOT
APPLY
TICKETS MUST BE ISSUED ON/BEFORE 31JAN 19 AND MUST BE
ISSUED ON IB OR BA.
TICKETS MAY NOT BE ISSUED BY PTA. TICKETS MUST BE ISSUED
BY ELECTRONIC TICKETING. EXTENSION OF TICKET VALIDITY IS
NOT PERMITTED.
Does this mean that you would be able to call BA to make a booking, even though it's an IB fare?

Although if I search it AMS-LHR-BKK, I can see the fare come up.

This is the fare I'm talking about.

So it looks like this fare is available to route to HKT still via HKG.

AMS-LHR-HKG // HKG-HKT-HKG // HKG-LHR-AMS now around EUR 1800.

This fare to BKK instead with HKG stopovers used to be about EUR 1600, so a price increase now of EUR 200.

Makes sense as BA have no direct flight to HKT ^

I noticed that you can get around £1.40/TP for OTP-HEL or OTP-SOF returns via LHR for some weekends (£475-500). Nearly up to Silver in one long weekend if combined with one of the SH+ sale fares for positioning.

I'm going round in circles and hoping someone might have a bright idea!

I am taking advantage of the INV-LAX fare, including LHR-INV-LHR positioning in CE to make it up to 1040 TPs. I have 3 Apr - 7 Apr as four full clear days in LA to nest a run to make gold in the one trip. I managed a decent ticket to MGA pricing at £630 for 440TPs but as I was booking the price jumped to over double. There is a similar fare for £670ish to San Sula but includes a brutal overnight LAS-MIA on a 737MAX which I don't fancy (the MGA ticket was an overnight in MCO).

In any case, the above leaves me short by 20 TPs and my OCD is really wanting me to nail this in one.

Any overarching thoughts of what I can try. I have pretty much searched the whole of the carib and central america!

Thanks

Thank you for your reply. May I know what a good value is? As you said, it isn't the end of the world, esp gven the time crunch with my restricted schedule, this was feasible. The AA advantage CC statement credit should offset this expense. Will update.

I did want silver as husband and I have international travel planned, albeit in eco, and we'd like lounge access and the other perks when possible.

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone might be able to help. Am planning to a tier point run as follows:

LHR-HEL
HEL-OSL
OSL-HEL
HEL-LHR all being well in business this should net me 240 tier points. However I can't seem to book the flights (even though there is availability), but I can book LHR-HEL, HEL-OSL, and then OSL-LHR via HEL. My question if this last segment will net me 80 or 40 tier points? As the BA calculator seems to suggest it would be 40 -- but if there's a layover and a change of planes do you collect tier points on each flight?

Thank you!

If your last segment is 'via HEL' and the flight number is the same for both journeys it most likely will only accrue 40TP, you need to separate out the last flights to LHR-HEL and then HEL-OSL.

Not sure if of interest to anyone but I am looking to go to mco in april and flying from Gla wasnt very cheap .I decided to have a look at Inv for the outbound but still returning to Gla. I was offered outbound a flight in first for £894 now considering the PE flight from Gla is £600+ on my dates I have decided to go for it I am still returning in PE to Gla ( total cost £1286) but for only £200 more than my original PE return. Im sure someone would be able to make the offered First into a TP run. Sorry not very good with matrix I only looked on BA.com it

Hi all,

I've just found and joined flyertalk and very glad to be here,

I've been out of action pretty much this past year and hence I've flown once. I need a whopping 1100 tier points by april. Does anyone have any good advice on great tier point runs. I can travel anytime from now and eager to book something. (i'll keep looking in the meanwhile)

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Joseph.
