Welcome to the thread. This is a continuation of the highly popular 2018 Tier Point thread (found here). We keep track of other prices, as well as useful reference information for those planning tier point runs.

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

This is a community-maintained wiki post. Please add important information to it or correct outdated information by clicking the "Edit" button below.

A new guideline thread for TP meetups has been created on 31 March 2020. If you would like other members to join your TP, or if you want to organize a TP run with other members. Please visit there. From the first few posts over there you could see the active ( confirmed ) TP meetings and the links to their relevant discussion threads, connect with other members and learn the details about the run. Click here to access that thread.

Please remember to:
  • Convert currencies to GBP, rounding to the nearest pound.
  • Post full routes and full booking classes.
  • Note any restrictions on booking in the Notes section.
  • List in order of price per tier point within the relevant departure area.

Please see the links at the bottom of the wiki for archives of runs from previous years.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Some information on how to use ITA matrix is in post 4 of this thread (or just click here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest along with UK domestic returns. Additionally you may find that trips in to mainland Europe require a one night stay whereas the cheapest domestic CE returns do not have any minimum stay so can be booked as a same day return. If doing a back to back AMS and JER can be easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround - more information can be found in the back to back thread listed in the forum dashboard. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). UK domestic route, Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seem the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post of this thread (here), MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and return on Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports).

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520.
DUB-LHR-HEL return (or return to LHR) is currently a very efficient way of hitting 200-240 TPs

ITA and Google Flights wasn't spitting out a BA option for this even when all the routing fields are blank -- which seems pretty impossible. How does one accomplish this?

Lots of nested LHR-HEL-LHR trips? Or MLA if you don’t like the cold...

I'm thinking of taking advantage of the current UL sale fare from DXB-CGK and would like any suggestions for improvements to my plan please:

LHR-INV J 11/06/20 14:30-16:10
INV-LHR-DXB Y/Y+ 11/06/20 19:00-08:25+1
DXB-CMB-CGK J/J 12/06/20 22:50-13:30+1
CGK-CMB-DXB J/J 14/06/20 14:25-21:40
DXB-LHR-INV Y+/Y 16/06/20 12:45-22:00
INV-LHR J 17/06/20 07:05-08:35

By my count that gives 840TP for £1337 less a bit for the BA price match. It also gives me a day or so for sightseeing in each of Dubai and Jakarta, which is why I've not minimised the time in each of those. I'm looking for around that number of TPs at the cheapest cost possible - alternatives I've seen recently eg OTP-PHX would be more expensive, especially with positioning costs, albeit with potentially more TPs. My BAEC year starts in April, so no particular rush, though regaining Gold sooner rather than later would be good.

A side note, there's a long (2hr50) gap between the LHR-INV and INV-LHR flights at the start - that is still a B2B I hope?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm a bit confused by your dates - June is high price for BA (compared to May) and also is in the blackout date for UL sale. I'm getting pretty much the same trip as you for ~£850 (in W for LHR-AUH-LHR) in May so definitely can be made more efficient.

If nothing else, in May you could even do two AUH-CGK runs for the same price as your trip!

I'm seeing 2675 AED on the Sri Lankan site for my dates. I see the same price in May.

Not particularly stuck with those dates, but just spreading my travel out a bit (and avoiding my wife's birthday!)

I can see INV-AUH for £440 in May, against £549 to DXB in my plan, so there is a saving there, thanks.

The lowest which has been seen is 2469 but in May, there are prices for 2529 (see below).

Also if you carefully put multi city BA INV-LHR-AUH-LHR, you get price down to £400 in May. With a best rate guarantee, you can even get this down to £305 - BA gave me a £90 voucher today morning so it does work. (see TLFL and the last page of Oneworld: UL: DXB-CGK in J, $800 R/T for details on this)

Just a heads up for those still making up their mind, some of the OTAs are no longer pricing this for the May dates, looks like its drying up

Has anyone managed anything creative with the current Germany-USA fare? I haven’t managed to get it to work with a HEL hop or any USA 140TP sectors and the best I’ve managed is GER-LHR-PHL-DCA-NYC and return for £960 yielding 520TPs (£1.85/TP). Can anyone do better?

Hi, new to the TP run business and looking for some wise heads to advise and point me in the right direction.

My annual TP collection expiry date is 9th Nov. I currently have 360 TPs but none on BA metal. I’ll also collect another 570 TPs from a trip end of sept / early oct but again no BA metal. My only BA flights this year have been Avios redemptions unfortunately.

So based on that I will be good for silver assuming I can find a sensible way to do 4 BA flights over the next 2 months. I think going for gold will be too ambitious as I’ve no other work trips currently planned and am due to move house at some point over the next couple of months so funds won’t exactly be flowing.

I think the sensible thing is to at least aim for bronze but really I want to aim for silver. Can anyone suggest / point me in the right direction for how to do 4 flights cheaply and easily. What are the best routes to look at it? Is it 2x LHR - ABX for example or some multi legged MAN-LHR-MAD thing. What typically is easy to find / do?

Until I move I’m based near Birmingham and then will be Bristol based so LHR is my best bet, poss MAN pre-house move.

Of course if there is a creative way to efficiently hit gold I could be tempted...

I got a HEL in, but not sure if it's 'better' as it's more money, and I can't get HEL into a return ...

I see only 440. 4 x 40 TP legs and 2 x 140. I could be mistaken.
Like you, I'm having trouble finding the long way round.

The one I posted above is 520. If you get HEL on the return too it would be more...
