My plan is usually to take the longest possible time to trigger the 2-4-1 voucher. Mrs TigerTanaka's card is has been sitting £30 short of £10k for about 3 months now and her year end is November. Not sure how late I dare leave it.

Along with what others have said I was under the impression that that Avios did not credit back again straight away. Never tried it though, just thought I'd read it somewhere on here!

because mrs firstlight and i have 2 accounts (each has an additional card on the other account) we have 2 vouchers. So we can get one quick And delay for the other. We don't like leaving many avios in our account as BA may depreciate them at any time.

Well, we'll set the record and then it's up to someone else to try and beat it!

Maybe I've misunderstood what you're doing, but why use it on a one way? Wouldn't it make more sense to look for a round trip?

So for those who are interested in the process here's what actually happened.

T0 - date for new companion voucher arrived, 10K amount spent immediately appeared as a pending transaction
T+2 days - spend appeared in Amex account, 0 avios showing
T+ 3 days - companion voucher awarded, avios for spend (30K as its BA) awarded
T+4 days - companion voucher appears in account, and spent on award flight

This process might have been quicker by a day had it not been over a bank holiday weekend...

In addition while it was possible to get reward flights using Mrs. firstlight's companion voucher but my extra seat availability as gold, it was not possible to transfer the existing CW reward seats into the voucher. Had to cancel the seats and they have not yet reappeared in inventory. The agent was very helpful and did wait a few minutes to see if they would reappear but no luck it appears this time...

So that's pretty much the same as for any other occasion on which an Amex voucher is triggered.

That's a very good reason to use a companion voucher and Avios but why the desire to make some sort of speed record? It's ok. You don't need to answer. This is FT after all
