Emphasis mine.

I recently had my first ever encounter with BA's in-flight wifi, incidentally on HND-LHR, and was slightly shocked that BA's in-flight wifi was faster than JL's.

Not sure if it was due to how many users were on it but it was the fastest in-flight wifi I have ever used.

Just having a look on matrix and have managed to get MXP-LHR-HEL-KIX-HND return for c 1.9k in J which by my calculation would be 600 tp on the button. You can substitute KIX with FUK as well. While not an optimal tp run in the traditional sense if this fare was available would definitely consider come World Cup time. Details below:

Ballot went off today so hopefully get the 11 group games applied for.

Got Winner of the Ireland/Scotland/Japan group 1/4 final (vs. Pool B runner-up) and both semi’s - now to decide if I go and how I get there!

3rd place play-off only ticket I’ve got so far - nothing else from Ireland team pack, Ireland-Japan, 2 quarters, 2 semis and final.

May I make a topical comment, in the interests of Equality and indeed Internation Relations ... will the matches be shown in BA Lounges?

We got Scotland team packs in the first round, and one quarterfinal: winner of Group A (Scotland, Ireland Japan) v runner up Group B (NZ, Boks).

Missed out on the other QF for our group, and NZ v Boks, England v France in the group stages (both of which take place in Yokohama the day before Scotland play there).

Will try again for the other QF down the line, but any Irish fans out there who have tickets for that and want to start making contingency plans to swap, let me know!

Whilst I’m here... I’ll post this Q in a geographic forum as well at some point, but wondering if anyone has some bright ideas...

We’re going for the whole of the group stages, and the QFs - that’s basically a month. We’ll definitely be doing some travel around Japan while we’re there (have been once before, went to Tokyo, Kyoto and Ishigaki in the Okinawan Islands). But feel that we will probably need some downtime to relax (and save money!) in a resort somewhere, and we’ve got a 10 day gap between two of our matches which looks ideal for this - the only question is where to go! We’re open to flying a few hours to cheaper ‘neighbouring’ (ish) countries (we thought of Vietnam, for example), but weather seems to be an issue at that time of year.

If we can use Avios all the better (and on topic!) but not a deal breaker.

Any ideas?

Sonewhere like Palau? There are those sorts of islands that are a bit off the beaten track for European tourists but have Flights / pacakage deqls from Japan

South Korea, is not as pricey as is made out (the love motels are around £35/40 a night or less ). Fantastic food ....and excellent public transport network, car hire is reasonable too.
Avios on JAL to Seoul or Busan, then compare the two countries. Very little chance of typhoons in that area then.

A fist full of miles and points but no luck in the ballot for me...
