BA115 14th Dec cancelled
I've just received a text message informing me that BA115 LHR - JFK on the 14th December has been cancelled. Out of interest would anyone know why? We were scheduled to depart at 1400 and have now automatically been kindly rebooked onto BA175, departing at 0940. Just a shame that I'll have to fork out for an overnight hotel and have a little less spending money now!

Presumably that's 0940 the next day?
Shouldn't there also be duty of care accommodation by the airline, together with compensation for the short notice cancellation and a very different arrival/departure time?

Perhaps saving an aircraft / crew from a potentially quiet flight and merging - although this would result in a return cut too? Phone with your preferred flight choice and you'll most likely get a switch absolutely not problem

Once I have a few minutes I'll take a look at the alternative options, but I'm guessing this close there won't be many choices given the cancellation...

No, 9am that morning. I had a quick search but unsurprisingly I couldn't find any results for a cancellation yet arriving earlier than the original!

Thats interesting. Does the fact that I've rebooked the seats on the new flight count as acceptance?

For the record, in this situation BA normally rebooks people on an alternative service automatically, since that is what customers told them they wanted. However, you are not deemed automatically to have accepted them until you actually do, and are free to select an alternative should it suit you better - just call or ask at the airport and if there is availability, it will be yours. In the case of US/Canada ops, this can include reroutings on AA. If their suggested alternative is the next day, you can claim a hotel cost under EU261 'duty of care' rules, on which there is a whole separate thread.
