Why not? That is the OP's final destination, and the entire itinerary was purchased as one ticket.

Ah well, as a lowly AA EXP, I'm understandably scum. I don't even get to use the CCR like a real toff. Which makes sense, I was wearing a baseball cap, and a double breasted sport jacket today: I would hardly have fit in.

Which AA subsequently split in 2, as related by the OP in post 1.

Yeah, I'm actually not totally surprised by this. The AA EXP desk wasn't sure how protection would work in this case, but I can same day change onto the later flight (which is wide open), so it ends up being a non-issue whether they reissue for IRROPS or SDC.

Yeah, I read that too. But it should be of no consequence to the OP, who bought a single itinerary to SMF. BA has a responsibility to deliver him there. Full stop.

This sounds awful, but sadly it's in keeping with what BA are going for nowadays.

I'm confused why you deliberately booked the LHR/LGW connection but then asked BA at LHR to change it. Given the laptop rules I'd be surprised if CAI staff refused a shortcheck of a bag for 'laptop return' reasons

The salient point is the prevailing 30 minute delay was not sufficient justification to change a restricted booking at the time.

As BA don't fly to SMF they will have difficulty with that.

BA has the ability to book him on any airline that does.

It was a bright orange ball cap with the logo of my company on it, so they can take it from my cold, dead head. And actually (and I admit as I say this I'm an american), nice slacks, a sport coat and a ball cap work surprisingly well together.

It seemed like a good idea at the time. Then it seemed like it was going wrong. And while I could be wrong, my read of pretty much everything at CAI is that "just because" is not a sufficient reason.
