Hi,

Flying BA GLA-LHR on Saturday and then out from LHR on Sunday to Australia on a separate ticket.

It is going to be cold in London on Sat night, and hot in Australia!

But since we can't check through bags, and we don't want to carry heavy winter clothes around Australia - and, on the way back, wait to collect a bag at T3 before going to T5, because otherwise we are HBO - I though of posting a suitcase back to GLA.

I see there is a post office in T3 open until 1pm on Sunday, and Parcels2go quote 15 for a hand-baggage sized package.

But out flight is at 20.15.

The other Collect+ etc alternatives seem to be out in Hounslow etc.

Anyone got any ideas for maybe dropping off at LHR somewhere that one of the couriers would pick up from?

This seems like quite a lot of faff. Are you going into town during your LHR layover, or just a hotel? Book the Sofitel and you won't have to leave air conditioning/heating.

Admittedly you may be a little cold on the way to GLA, but even then you could just get a taxi. Saves having to wear a coat.

I use a light-weight Patagonia technical windbreaker which is warm enough to pass for a coat for casual London strolls and compresses into a small space when packed. And to think that I originally bought it mainly for hiking rather than travel convenience.

For a long-haul flight to Australia (and back) you are going to need some kind of second layer for the plane, so I'd find something which will double up for your London night.

Hi all,

Well, we have a flight booked at 17:15 on Saturday - but since it is a few-fare we can try for the earlier one.

Then our flight on the Sunday is at 20:15. So we have a whole day in London on the Sunday, plus - maybe - a good bit of a day on the Saturday.

So we have used Accor Happy Mondays to book into the Paddington Accor to get the HEX.

And looking at what is on on Saturday night we have got some sticker shock: i.e. Pirates of Penzance at 150 each for decent seats!

So it was either Sean Brosnan (James Bond's son) as Beau Brummell in Piccadilly - nice and warm - or the Chinese Lantern Festival in the grounds of Chiswick House - Freezing!

Forecast is now for clear skies on Saturday, so it looks like Chiswick. And then maybe Camden market and Regent's Park on Sunday. Used to live on the canal there.

The biggest problem is the return. If we could still through-check then we would just have left the winter case in the hire car for the holiday and then checked it in to Glasgow.

Now, it would mean hold luggage for it - since the rest is hand-baggage - and means collecting and rechecking in London, a hassle if the inbound is late.

It will also cost us 20 for an extra bag on an internal flight.

Now going to try the hotel and see if the will allow collection from them.

Why you'd want to go to Camden Market on a Sunday - especially knowing what it's like - I have no idea! But each to their own, I suppose...

Will be interested to hear the outcome of this - I assume airPortr isn't an option given the long distance...

FYI Camden Town Station is exit only on Sundays between 13:00 and 17:00

Update:

Novotel concierge says OK to leave bag with them on Sunday for collection by courier on Monday.

Parcels2go quote just 8 for hand-baggage sized case to Scotland!

May have to take a roll of tape and wrap a bin bag around it to make it a parcel, though!

ps Used to live on a narrow boat and motor to Camden on a Sat and stay the night in the 80s. Happy Days!

Am sure it has changed.
