BA9773T from London to London

I was at LCY on 29th December and we saw this flight on the Departures Board. Purporting to be a BA flight from LCY to London, that was delayed by 44 minutes.

I thought if anyone could tell me what this was about it would be this board.

Apologies for it being at 90 degrees

I am not sure, but it might have been this training flight (T for training?)

A positioning or training flight or that was automatically picked up and shown as a departure.

Some of the LCY aircraft operate out of STN, or else maintenance.

Possibly a training flight.

Although the Source doesn't have an entry for this specific flight, it does have one for a training sortie on 29 December: http://thebasource.com/ba-cityflyer-...ing-mission-2/

And on 20 December, the flight number was used for a similar training sortie: http://thebasource.com/ba-cityflyer-...ining-mission/

G-LCYP on a training flight. It departed LCY, went to SEN for circuits, came back to LCY for 3 more circuits. It had 3 flightplans filed, and this is just the last one for the final LCY flight it seems.

Thanks all. Mystery solved. At least it gave us something to talk about whilst we waited for the flight.

I have seen how U2 do it and it seems there is a flight number for the flight from base to the airport where they are doing circuits, a flight number for the actual circuits training once at the training airfield, then another flight number for the return flight back to base.

For these training flights and test flights you can largely file what you like because the actual plan for what happens is communicated by fax between the operator and ATC and then coordinated inter-unit at the time. The flightplans are largely just for counting and charging!

I was at LCY on the 20th December and saw that too. What made it more confusing is my flight went tech, so it was swapped with another aircraft, which also went tech. I think the aircraft we eventually got was intended for that training flight.
