No mention of forecast windshear in the TAF though. A forecast of wind and gusts does not automatically mean WS. WS is a separate phenomenon.

WS warning is not a mandatory go-around in all situations anyway.

Windshear procedures vary by airline - one I've worked for required a mandatory go-around for any windshear warning, while another allowed us to treat it as advisory (under fairly limited circumstances) if it was clearly spurious. The systems are pretty good and I wouldn't expect many to be triggered today, but they're not immune to false warnings in gusty conditions.

Also not sure I've ever seen windshear forecast on a TAF? Normally seems to appear on the METAR or ATIS, if at all.

Ordinarily, no. But if the visibility does drop to 500 metres (unlikely as its only a 30% chance, temporarily, during a 2-hour window), a 26kt crosswind would likely place it outside of many aircraft's autoland limits.

WS often used in TAF's in the US. Here is the present TAF for IAD.

TAF: KIAD 121137Z 1212/1318 20013G20KT P6SM BKN070 OVC140 WS020/22045KT

Indeed. My comment that a wind shear warning is not a mandatory go-around in all situations was entirely based on several conversations with BA pilots over the years who mentioned some of those reasons you noted. Based on that I don't believe BA is one of those airlines which require mandatory go-arounds for wind shear warnings under all circumstances.

Must admit I have very rarely seen wind shear warnings in METARs in the UK - perhaps wind shear is much more prevalent in the US?

FWIW, I have seen plenty of WS warnings in METARs for Swiss airports (especially ZRH) and AMS I believe.

Looking at the T5 departure boards for this evening's flights, I would say about a quarter or a third of shorthaul services have been cancelled for the usual places (MAD, MAN, EDI etc), starting at 15:00 with BA910 to Frankfurt. No lonhauls, and I'm told all the cancellations were done yesterday or early this morning, so hopefully not too many surprises, and mainly to those on connections.

EDIT: Looking at KARFA's list, one longhaul, Jeddah is cancelled, it's not on the screens here yet.

I'm located around 15m west of LHR. I can report that there is now snow falling. Due to the huge amount of water on the ground I am not expecting it to settle though. So, it looks like the early forecasts (4pm+) were right.

EDIT: OK, quite a lot is falling now. It's settling on cars/grass but not yet on the tarmac.

I've taken refuge inside from the 35c heat here. During my daily look at the Greenock webcam I see the snow has been falling and lying there. No idea if GLA has been affected though.

It's dark there now so you'll have to take my word for it.
