Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

I am doing the LAS-SFO run again next month (I know, glutton for punishment)

A question, last time I did this I ended up in a hotel 6 at LAX because an earlier delayed flight threw everything out. At one point I was told at the lounge that they could get me back to LAS but only in coach as my seat had already been given to someone else as they thought I would miss the flight (they were able to do this because that flight was a late departure.

I explained that I needed to travel in F so that I got the TP's I required. So I declined.

On further reading am I now to assume that I could have taken that flight in Y and asked AA to give me the TP's and miles for the cabin I had paid for?

And would this then had been translated to my BAEC account?

Yes, in the case of IRROPS you should be able to claim for original routing credit. More details here https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...r-s-guide.html

I will be flying to Japan on QR, CX and JL at the end of May.
As the F lounges are supposed to be really nice, I'd like to have BA Gold status by then, for which I still need 475 TP.
(I was originally going to fly with a friend who holds BA Gold status, but it now looks like he won't be able join me after all.)
More or less anywhere in Europe would be ok as a starting point.

April 25-May 16 would generally work, but I'd prefer to do this on a weekend.
April 28-May 1 would be perfect as May 1 is a public holiday here anyway.

Do you have any suggestions?

One option I have found is HEL-LHR-DOH-DXB-DWC-DOH-ARN-HEL (if I remember correctly), yielding about 600 TP.
But that ticket is 1200 €, and Dubai isn't really that exciting as a destination.

Another option would be CAI-LHR-JFK-LAX-HNL-LAX-JFK-LHR-CAI which would yield 1,120 TP for 1,700 €.
However, the feeder to CAI is 300 € and I can't even collect miles in the booking classes I found (at least not in any of the programs I use).
So it would basically be 2,000 € for 1,120 TP, plus hotels.
For that money I would rather fly to the US twice to collect the same number of TP...

I would prefer to just get the 475 TP as cheaply as possible, as long as it doesn't mean flying back and forth between dull places a thousand times.

Thanks!

Question Weekend trip for 200TPs

Hi all

I'm floating between bronze and silver...it's been a quiet year this year with lots of short ET trips. I need 180-200 TPs before Sept to retain silver. Would like somewhere cheap and cheerful that I can do over a weekend (from LHR).

Any suggestions based on current fares?

Already going to TLL on a separate trip so count that one out.

Cheers in advance ^^^

The principle would be:

Saturday week 1
LHR-HEL-TLL (outbound of ticket 1)
TLL-HEL-LHR (outbound of ticket 2) booked so TLL-HEL is returnn of the same aircraft as HEL-TLL above

Saturday week 2
LHR-HEL-TLL (inbound of ticket 2)
TLL-HEL-LHR (inboundof ticket 1) booked so TLL-HEL is return of the same aircraft as HEL-TLL above
If nesting you don't need to spread it over two weekends.

You can nest up to 3 tickets in a single weekend, see examples in the other post

The simplest option is to next two tickets and fly LHR-HEL-TLL-HEL-LHR on both Saturday and Sunday.

Thanks for the suggestion!

That doesn't sound that tempting though... Ok, maybe on the A350, but other than that...
I think with hotels this would probably land in the 700-900 € range, if I'm not mistaken?
Then I'd rater pay a little more and go some place interesting, instead of just flying back and forth...

How about something like this:

https://www.google.co.uk/flights/#se...AA54;sc=b;eo=e

That gets you 440TP, and with positioning from your location to Manchester that should get you to 475? I have seen some other examples with more domestic US flights on the above that would yield even more TP. I think some examples are in the 'Premium Fare Deals' thread.

Also would like to try their product, Currently the only long haul business product i have flown is BA and I am unable to join in slagging off every day :-)
All Booked in CW, worked out £55 cheaper than WT+ :-)

ENJOY - Funnily enough I have just done a similar journey ex DUBLIN in First Class on Emirates/Qantas - for EUR5400 and 1160 TPs - 4 emirates sectors in F and 1 Qantas in F (DUB-DXB-SYD-MEL-BKK-DXB-LHR-DUB) and well worth it and soooo much cheaper than what BA were quoting in FIRST and the food, service, showers on A380, and limo transfers make it all the much better than BA could ever hope to achieve - to be fair even QF First blew BA way out of the water in every respect!

Even QF First?

I may have been unusually lucky with having the entire F cabin to ourselves from LHR to MEL last year but the QF F experience (soft & hard product combined) was beyond that I've experienced elsewhere, including BA, DL(IIRC?), UA,, AA, AF, LH and TG.

I've had nicer seats, and nicer service levels (just) - but my QF flights in F are a clear head and shoulders above any other flights I've had as a combination of the two.

I really need to try JL and CX to compare....

Oh and to state the obvious, the on the ground experience with QF was not great compared to AF, TG and LH, but still 'good enough' to feel special - (i.e. a lounge host walked us to the gate and we were met in person at the gate in MEL and escorted all the way to our chauffeur) - which BA first certainly doesn't manage... this is a real problem area for BA - arriving in london off an F flight does not feel at all special

Hi I need to fly to LAX (or somewhere close by) on 19 May and want to make a tier run out of it. Need 475 TP to get gold.

Have seen the LIT, SAT, OKC deals but not great for onward connections into LAX - £300 rtn in coach.

Any other itineraries people have booked to LAX I should consider?

Not fussed if I get a bit less than 475 TP as will probably do a couple of Europe flighs this summer as well.

thanks

Thanks! That's a pretty nice deal. Definitely something I'll consider.
Somewhat fewer TP than DXB on QR, but then again, I've never been to Texas before...
