** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

You're in luck. MH is still running the sale for PVG-KUL-SIN. 500 USD return but you'll have to book within the next 36 hours.

Try nesting SIN-KUL-ICN in the above. I haven't looked at the prices, but if it is a bit dear try other intermediate destinations instead of SIN.

Hi all, Ms AlexLGW requires 270 TP to achieve Gold and has until end of January 18 to get them. We are looking for an economical TP run, preferably over a weekend or the Xmas break. We are based near MAN but happy to travel to LON or position for an ex EU. No destination off the table. Any help would be very much appreciated!

LUX-NCL-DUB, overnight. DUB-MAN for most weekends would net 240 then a positioning flight to LUX to pick up the remainder.

Xmas weekends are quite expensive, but outside of that around £460-£570.

You say she has until the end of January, is that when status expires or TP collection year ends, as it's always the 8th of the month. Check her year end isn't 8th December, as that makes it a bit tighter.

Good afternoon , is it still possible to achieve BA gold in one TP run at a reasonable price (long and boring story why my travel plans have changed) ? my dates are February through to June - any suggestions? thanks

I don't think any single cheap tickets can do it anymore. Might get a lucky EU->HEL->LHR->NYC->LAX->HNL with the transcon in A and if you do A on the TATL too you will be very close. 210+210+140+40+80 * 2 = 1360

Has there been any luck in getting transcons in A again lately? My last successful attempt was early Sept.

IIRC this possibility was 'enhanced' away later that month. A return of this perk would be very welcome

Cheap tickets

Hi, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but
If I want to travel to Sydney, Australia, personal Business class next November 2018 2 people, when is the best time to but the tickets ? Are they cheapest now and gradually go up, or is there a time when the price comes down ?
I'd be grateful for any advice.

Welcome to Flyertalk DANDL

Where are you starting from (City) and what’s your budget / expected spend? I am sure there’s some tips to be had here to get to SYD in business for around £2K per person

Short answer is no. The days for Gold for £1200 including F on the transcon and a TATL on the BabyBus are gone.

However, all is not lost. As pointed out above, you can do something that gives you F LON-JFK and then F on the transcontinental to LAX but that is likely to be expensive and will not get you all the way. There are examples upthread of OTP-PHX which will do 1040TP for about £1500, but you need to ensure you get the LHR-HEL-LHR shuffle in. You will still need an additional 460TP but with some creative positioning (MAN-LHR-OTP?) you would have another 240TP and for the final 220TP you could do something like PHX-LAX-SFO-LAS rtn whilst out there which would push you over the threshold. You could probably do all of that in a week for about £3k but only you can decide if it is worth it.

Hi Mikeyfly,
Thanks for replying.
Sorry - flying from London Heathrow.
As regards cost, the cheaper the better as I'm paying for them myself.
I'm quite keen to get on and book them - with any helpful advice on price reduction - and am wary that as the weeks/months go by, the price may go up.
Apart from the extra costs of staying over somewhere (Hong Kong/Singapore) does that impact on flight costs ?
In principle we'd probably plan to fly straight through but if there is a benefit in stopping over - tier points/avios etc - we'd look at that.
As you can gather, I'm an innocent lamb in this and would be very grateful for advice.
