** AA Domestic First on two cabin will earn business TPs and avios for departures on or after 11 January 2017 - see reference posts for more details **

** Note that the practice of AA Domestic 3-class service flights booking into A for 210 TPs when I was no longer available ceased in September 2017. Discussion here. **

Please read the first few posts in this thread first as it contains lots of information which may answer your question.

Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?
Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. The guide to using ITA matrix in post #4 (see here) along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or fewer
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year). Alternatively, booking a return to one of the 40 tier point destinations with one way in CE and the return in ET (or vice versa if cheaper). Bilbao, Jersey and Amsterdam seems the most cost effective for this.

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VNO via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520. Also the BA fare for LHR-HEL-TLL at ~£235 is still available and would get 200 TPs for a return.

Bonus points for a return via New Orleans (MSY)!
Take a look at the details in the Wiki. Unfortunately your departure date is not within the range of the dates:

19 March through 12 April

Note that both of the transatlantic sectors need to be within those dates - i.e. both out and return. There are 2 internal connections permitted.

From HNL there are the following direct connections: DFW, PHX, LAX and OAK. For MSY you could do HNL-LAX-MSY or HNL-DFW-MSY. It might be worth looking at the AA route maps here.

I'd suggest using Google Flights to try out some routings, noting as above that must be within the date ranges detailed within the Wiki post.

[Edit] note that a stopover in the US attracts a ¢600 premium, so I though I can find a rate of £2,222 for direct DUB-HNL and return outside of the sale period, a stopover makes it prohibitive. How long in New Orleans...? I think less than 24 hours isn't a stopover.

Hi All,

A while ago I saw a post referring to the AMS-BKK fares which allowed travel via another Asian city on both o/b and return.

I can price this up easily with Google Flights eg AMS-LHR-SIN-BKK/-HKG-LHR-AMS for around £1250 but I can't find any OTA that gets anywhere close. I've never done this before and rather than waste time and money (and potential embarrassment!) on the phone to BA, has anyone actually booked this fare recently?

No need for embarrassment, why not phone BA? I did and booked two of these fares. If it is pricing up on goole flights or itamatrix then it should be bookable. Just call and let them know dates, flight numbers, and selling class.

Is OAK to HNL new? Never thought there was a near SFO option for the hop to HNL before... Or is this just because of the new Gatwick flight showing it as an option, can you typically do a TP run sensibly into SFO and out of OAK on recent ex DUB fares and the like?

I think AS fly OAK to Hawaii. However, I don't see how you would get any TPs on these flights. No combination of AS/AA code and AS metal gets TPs.

As noted in post #2, BA have now started some codeshares on AS metal flights which would earn TPs, see here for details. However, in terms of routes to Hawaii I thought only exSEA routes are covered? Has this agreement been extended to exOAK routes too?

Apologies for confusion... it is indeed an AS flight from HNL-OAK.

I just tried an LGW-HNL itinerary on BA.com and it comes up "Sorry we don't fly to HNL from LGW" message, and instead brings up the LHR-SEA and SEA-HNL AS option, with SEA-HNL being the BA codeshare.

Looking to possibly do a short TP run in March, to get me over silver for next year. I have a day and a half to spare in London and not much else to do with it. Any particular recommendations? I can either overnight in a destination (Sat night) or go out and return on Saturday.

If overnighting, I would prefer an LGW return, as that's where my next flight leaves from on the Sunday.

If doing a day return on the Saturday , then LCY or LHR would work too.

Noticed today: DUB-LCY-DUB for 238 EUR in J, may be reduced to 122 EUR for 15000 Avios, for 80 TPs. ICOFFER fare code, Sunday night minimum stay, looks like applies to early/late flights between DUB and LCY only.

I was just looking at this (planning my first TP run), but the numbers don't seem to add up for the £/TPs here in the wiki. #1 should be £1.65/TP and #2 should be £1.33/TP.

I know it's minor, but it would be useful to change it for first-timers such as me looking at it. I would edit it myself but I don't have the privileges yet.

Hi, First time poster here so hopefully i'm in the right place

I have 560 Tier Points from a QF Business flight last year so need 40 points to get to Silver before the 8th February, I haven't taken any BA Flights this year so need 4 legs as well

I'm not fussed on where i fly to and can fly from LON/MAN, I can really only travel on 4th or 5th of February and would prefer a same day return, so far I've looked at ITA Matrix and found MAN-LHR-PSA or MAN-LHR-BSL for £272

Is this the best price idea for a Tier Point trip or is there a better option? Also am i right in thinking Silver will let me choose my seat now for our BA biz flight in Jan 18 saving us £77 each as well

Sorry for the long first post!

Chris

Saving about £300 in seat reservations was the original reason I did my first TP run. Yes, it will save you the cost of seat reservations. Earn you a bit more avios too.

With the limit criteria you've provided: same day return, and those generate enough TPs (are they CE?), then yep, that should do it. Might be better ones others could suggest though...
