BGI Question

This is a long shot and I'm hoping somebody on here can help me who has travelled the route 'un-packaged' before (I tried searching the main forums but no joy)

I'm travelling to BGI in March on honeymoon and I wanted to arrange an airport transfer but to be honest, after spending some time checking trip advisor and various other sites, all I can turn up is a random personal email address for drivers.

Having been to the Caribbean a few times, I get that there are lots of independent drivers offering transfers but I was hoping for something a little more solid given the occasion and that fact that I'll have my 16 month old with us. I'm not bothered about paying for a limo type service but I just can't

Any advice the crowd can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Hi
Are you staying in a hotel? If so won't they arrange transfers

If not there are taxi firms that will meet you in arrivals

Hi Bradders,

I live in BGI and more than happy to help.

You can PM me details and I'll speak to a few who know here.

Best
TD

Suntransfers web site shows that they offer a transfer service at BGI. I have not used them in Barbados, but they have been reliable and reasonably priced when I have used them in Portugal, Italy and Turkey.

Thanks guys!

I've emailed Suntransfers but they aren't offering the service for March which seems very odd given they've got it listed.

I also tried Suntours as the most 'polished' website but again, no response in a few days.

Tominbgi - I'll send you a PM now!

This is why I love FT!

I used this company for Fast-Track arrivals (worth every penny as we landed on the early BA flight right behind a Virgin 747 and an Air Canada A320).

We were met as we entered the immigration hall, taken through a separate immigration line (less than 5 minutes), collected bags and escorted through customs to our waiting car. From disembarking to arriving at our hotel in Porters (40 minute transfer) took under 1 hour 15 minutes. Plus, the meters & greeters were incredibly friendly and jovial!

Thanks Bobbie!

I've contacted them for a quote on the full thing. Hopefully they'll do a child seat!

It's like the Middle East then with a 'cut the line' type of service?

Also get a quote from www.platinumservicesbgi.com. They also offer the fast track arrival service and we always use them.

From the above, do I gather arriving at BGI can be a bit of a PITA? We are still reviewing our options for next year. I don't mind the price if it solves a problem ... it's going to be a tiny fraction of the overall cost.

Neither MBJ nor KIN (Jamaica) have been a problem at all ... but then we were amongst the first off the aircraft.

Lol!

Same deal here. It's our First F (thanks to this forum for the knowledge)

UVF was particularly poor but I've noted that MBJ wasn't an issue in the past. I think the issue after speaking with Tomlin is that there around 6/7 flights competing for an arrival slot which is an on the day lottery. If you're behind the VS 744 then it could be painful....

Loved reading your trip reports btw. Particularly MLA!

Thanks, bradders81 ... I may explore 'expediting' at UVF on that basis. Being in F doesn't help if you're the 7th aircraft to land!! Less than 2 weeks to go!

Apologies to anyone else for the "Island Diversion"

Very good!

The difference at UVF seemed to be that there are only two/three stands. There is an AA flight that lands around the same time (757) and it seemed to really clog up the tiny airport. It was maybe 45 minutes and we were in J so relatively quickly off.

Don't remember if there was a fast track at UVF....it was a year ago though so maybe it's changed.

US$40 per person (adult - don't know about kids) plus 17.5% VAT. That is just for the fast track immigration service. We always book our taxi transfer separately direct but Platinum Services liaise with him so that the car is waiting for us as we exit customs.
