Need a year-end TP run (ex-LON) to make / retain status?

Some tips for searching for the year-end TP run for newcomers, the below is indicative only, but hopefully provides a bit of guidance for relatively straightforward runs ex-LON. Prospero's guide to using ITA matrix in post 3 (here along with these ideas, might come in handy. Feel free to share results, problems or general questions in the thread as these may not always work and there might be better deals out there...

For overnight trips remember to check BA and Iberia for their flights and hotel option as well, can get hotel for almost no extra cost at times

Need 80 TPs or less
Club Europe return somewhere close by is best - DUB, AMS and JER usually cheapest. AMS and JER easier than DUB for an immediate turnaround. The BA.com low fare finder can be very useful.

If you need as few as 45 TPs you might consider booking economy flights and hoping for a proactive online upgrade offer - but they're not guaranteed to materialise (so not one if you have no more time left in your TP collection year)

Or a slightly more interesting fun run

Need 85-120 TPs
Iberia flights via MAD to regional Spanish airports will get you 120 TPs as the domestic Spanish flights are 20 TPs in business. Under £300 including hotel can be available. Check BIO, GRX, VLC, BCN, SVQ etc. Example here

Need 125-160 TPs
Take a look at the shorthaul plus routes earning 80 TPs each way in business listed in the first post (here) MLA, IST, HEL and RAK are usually available. If time sensitive take a look at BA flight and hotel option to HEL, where you can usually get the last BA flight out on a Saturday, airport hotel and first return Sunday for well under £500.

Alternative options include positioning to JER and flying JER-LGW-XXX (AMS usually works well and avoids switching airports)

Need more than 160 TPs
You'll most likely be heading north then - OSL or VLL via HEL will get you 240 TPs, as will JER-LGW/LHR-HEL e.g. LHR-HEL-OSL for £520

Use google flights multistop search (I hope the link works):

https://www.google.de/flights/#searc...1-10;tt=m;sc=f

Also works for a few $ more from CAK, CLE, CMH, BUF, ATL, PBI, ???.

... even cheaper from BNA to DEN!

I'm pretty sure this one isn't an error fare.

Budget?

There is 560 TP available on RJ LHR-BKK for under £1k, i know its more than you require but the likelihood is you won't get much better for less even ex EU.

It used to be that HEL-AGP on AY would give you 140 TPs in J. If that's still the case, then OSL-HEL-AGP-HEL-OSL can be had for under 500 pounds on some days in Nov. Matrix is not doing a very good job of finding same day connections though, so schedule/availability might be an issue.

Example:

As I am about to start my career as a TP hunter I have been looking at the options for my first run.

One question which I have not been able to answer is whether it is sensible to try and get Bronze before starting a longer distance (hoping for silver and leading to gold) run. I guess it all comes down to the extra Avios available when bronze.

Are there any strategies that I should be aware of? I would obviously like to maximise Avios and TPs where possible.

A nice cheap weekend Bronze TP run might be fun.

Probably not given that you can get to silver so quickly.

I suppose it depends where you're starting from.

On the other hand, if you're looking for gold then bronze @ 300 + 1,200 from Hawaii would give you an incidental run at no additional cost.

If done correctly, you should get bronze on the way out to a TP holiday. I think it was on my boarding pass on the way back.

If done completely correctly, you can get silver on the way out, on a 1200tp run...

Hmmmn, was looking the Qatar Brum thing and remembered about the slew of 2 for 1 sales last year and wondered what happened to those. So went looking.

http://www.qatarairways.com/global/e...promotion.page

This page seems to list that there's a Qatar sale starting 2nd November, ending 6th of November. It infers its a 2 for 1, even listing the adults as 2, but does not explicitly say it.

Wondering what the prosects would be of a 2 for 1 TP holiday off the back of this. Does Qatar include a limo or is that just Emirates? I remember getting decent fares before for Oz off the back of some of them last year or year before, but that might have just been the Malaysian one...

Nice find smid. If you don't mind, I'd like to copy your message onto the QR forum, referencing your find.

In terms of the new departures from Birmingham, it looks like the higher priced fares have been loaded, but not the discounted Business Promo/Saver fares. Hopefully this will be amended shortly.

In terms of the limousine option, that is not something QR offer unfortunately.

A TP run novice here but i'm trying to factor a sneaky TP run in whilst on holiday next year, miles off to be fair but thinking MIA, MCO a few days break then MCO, CLT, SAN and back to MCO via CLT for a further few days before back to MIA, this over a two week break. Should net me 650 TP's in F but fancy it's a bit rich just now at £1200 each given what seems to reported on here from time to time.

I've tried this on a multi city and its more expensive than doing 2 bookings, all on the american airlines uk site. Am i missing a trick somewhere?

My date are miles off and not on sale yet to be fair (late Sept '16) so no urgency but I do like to be organised way ahead of myself.
