I've guested in twice, been guested twice and met up a few times.
Each and every time I've felt it was a highly positive experience.
The overriding trend here is that the CCR holders seem to attract the pestering.

I've never had bad experiences with FTers, both in person and via PM. I'm always happy to meet people from the furum when circumstances allow it. All were very polite and decent, sometimes I spent time chatting with my guest/guestee while sometimes not, though a brief talk at the beginning is mandatory for me.
I like the idea to convert OFFERS in MEET-UP, with statusless people posting their REQUESTS, then it's up to guestee to contact via PM. Very often though the guest is someone with GC access who is invited into GF or CCR, the MEET-UP format is an incentive to gather together and got to know other FTers.

I've never been guested but regularly offer guesting on most of my visits to CCR. At the opposite end of the scale to Geoggy I have met some folk who I have guested to CCR on an occasional social basis in London as we have shared common interests and enjoyed meeting up.
I've seen a recent request for +2 and am staggered at the cheek! Conversely my nuisance pest had several thousand posts and floated between Bronze and Silver.
No easy answer and a wide range of views as always!

The only time I posted an offer for two ie wifey and me for CCR, I received a short curt instruction (no please or thank you) to call an overseas number. I ignored it because I thought it rude. I was then sent several more rather rude demands some in capital letters with exclamation marks. It really hacked me off actually and I haven't repeated it.
If however I saw a request from an FTer I recognised on the three days or so each year we visit I'd certainly feel comfortable about offering. I don't think I would feel comfortable for anyone I hadn't seen genuinely contributing to FT.

I have to say I am coming around to cws's suggestion of:
1) Only requests for guesting should appear - no offers to guest.
2) Only from those who can Wiki edit, which simultaneously screens out one-hit chances and reduces the workload on the many, many people who work hard to keep this thread alive and get sod all thanks for their efforts from Flyertalk.

I can't believe that some people see an act of kindness as an entitlement. I was guested for the first time into the CCR a couple of weeks ago by Docgasman. It was a really nice way to spend an hour over breakfast on my 12 hour journey to Pristina. I wouldn't have put a request myself, but when I saw that there was an offer which matched my times I thought I'd ask and see what response I got. Had there not been an offer I'd have been quite happy with a bacon roll in GC (courtesy of the CX gold from amex), but instead I had the opportunity for an hour of good conversation, on what would otherwise have been quite a lonely day.
