With the POUG, have others tried to book a flight, if that does not come up immediately cancel within 24h.
POUGs are not now offered until 48 hours after booking to prevent this.

As mentioned further up the thread you can do DME without a visa if in transit and back to back does count.

Easy to miss, I just wanted to point out that it can be done. You need to be prepared to help G4S with the rules as others here can confirm.

Thanks everyone for your guidance - in the end I've booked a return from Gatwick to Jersey, out on Saturday in ET, back on Sunday in Club World, for 50 tier points - Cost is 155 and it goes down to 125 when I apply 4500 Avios to it.

Jobs a good 'un - All help much appreciated

If you're expecting Club World you might be somewhat disappointed.

Also using 4500 avios to reduce the cost by 30 is quite a poor use of avios at 0.67p/avios.

I agree. You can buy Avios in Tesco for about 0.86p each, with a bit of flapping around, so if you have a Capitalist mind-set you are looking to get at least 2p per Avios value out of them, which you clearly haven't done. Unless you have a mountain of Avios with which you are totally fed up, it's best to steer clear of that particular scheme. Penny wise......

1. The cheapest return fare 99, so that would be 198 for two.
2. LHR-LBA-LHR x2 is only 40 TP's.

was just about to make the same points.

I 'value' Avios at 1p in my mind but often easily 'extract' 2p or more on European RFS'.

Moscow in the winter, passengers would probably pay 90 to stay in the airport.

Does Russia specifically state transiting doesn't have to be to a third country or is it just lax policing?

I'm not worried about the Club World seat I end of sitting in - It's a one hour flight and it's just to earn points...

I don't apply any particular value to Avios - They're easy come, easy go in my book. I earn them through flights that are funded by my company. In this case, I'm personally paying for the tier points run, so I'll use the Avios to bring the cost down as far as I can.

The point is that you're not going to be in Club World at all.

Thanks for the reality check on this. I've just probably in effect thrown out an Amex 2-4-1 voucher which I could have used, on the ground that even if I'd used it I would have been burning extra Avios at 0.67p compared to the net cost of a UuA at a rather keen current sale fare.

In fact, even if I add the 150 fee for the Amex to the extra cash paid for the UuA, the Avios would only have been at 0.8p. And there's TPs to come from the UuA.

So I'm glad I wasn't barking up the wrong tree.
