Seating Queries: Club World

This thread is a continuation of the very popular https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/brit...lub-world.html thread. Its purpose is for all your questions (and answers) regarding the best, worst, noisiest, and quietest seats in Club World. Each slide below contains a three digit alpha-numeric code which relate to specific aircraft type. These "aircraft type" codes are displayed in the Manage My Booking page when you select your seats.

This (the 70J) aircraft configuration has now been phased out.

You will note there are two types not represented here: the Gatwick based four class Boeing 777 (77A) and the mid haul Airbus A321. Unfortunately, the seat maps for these aircraft are not presently available on BA.com but I hope to be able to add these sometime in the near future.

Sixth Freedom Sep 21, 2014 5:58 am

Sixth Freedom's guide to which CW seats on the 4 class 777 have the best window views

The 4 class 777 comes in a number of configurations and some of the seats do not have a great view out of the window.

4 class 777-200 with 12 or 14 F seats
Operates across all 777-200 routes

10AK = no window aligned with seat - poor view and lack of natural light
11AK = good view
12AK = missing window - poor view
13AK = good view
14AK = good view
15AK = missing window - lack of natural light

4 class 777-200 with 17 F seats
Only operates on routes less than 4,000 miles or so

10AK = no window aligned with seat - poor view
11AK = missing window - poor view and lack of natural light
12AK = good view
13AK = good view
14AK = missing window - poor view and lack of natural light
15AK = good view

4 class 777-300 with 17 F seats

Row 10: window behind seat hood but missing window at pax view point - views unlikely
Row 11: full complement of windows, window to front of hood offering good views
Row 12: window behind hood with panel split at view point, slightly less preferred for viewing
Row 13: full complement, window to front of hood offering good views
Row 14: missing window behind hood and slightly to front of view point - view possible but may be hindered slightly
Row 15: window to front and rear of hood, middle window of 3 missing, view probably unhindered but less natural light
Row 16: approximately normal complement of windows except no window at end of cabin so the seat may be missing one or half a window with no impact on view

Summary:

Row 13 is the only row guaranteed to have unobstructed window views across all 777 aircraft.

Shouldn't the A321 Club World cabin be added to the first post? Great new design, Prospero.

777W Clubworld 16E/F

Hi All,

<T-72 for our CW flight and the seats 16EF on the 777W config have become available.

Since the only seats left for pre-selection are middle pairs, this pair might be the best.

but at this stage is it possible/likely to be moved out of these seats for someone to use the bassinet position??

Would be grateful for any advice!!

thanks

joejet Sep 22, 2014 7:42 am

It is possible right upto boarding but most people travelling with infants normally book further out and as they get free seat selection it is unlikely you will be moved.
Joejet

Can I help you Sep 22, 2014 7:43 am

Unlikely, 16A and 16K are also bassinet positions so I wouldn't worry.

Flyiboy Sep 24, 2014 12:20 pm

I assume 1a/b on B787 are the quiestest and the most private ?

40J 777 - bassinet and row alignment in CW?

Following yesterday's news that our flights to/from Grenada have changed day and operating via Antigua instead of St Lucia I have lost the seat reservation and have had to reselect seats on the new flights. The aircraft is a 40J 777-200.

We are 2 adults, 1 child (3 years old) and 1 baby (9 months). Outbound is ok and we have the bassinet position with the rear middle pair and an adjacent aisle seat (3 D, E, F).

For the overnight return 3F and G have already been selected so we can't have the middle E/F pair to ourselves. I have currently got 3 B, D and E selected (bassinet plus 2 aisle seats) with 1 adult and the 3 year old in the B and D aisle seats.

How are the window pairs aligned with the centre block of 4 seats? We need easy sight and access to the 3 year old. Is 4B (currently free) better aligned to 3D for sight and access or should we stick with 3B?
Thanks

When do the Bassinet Seats become available. I have tried to move us today to 15E F for flight to Tokyo in just under 72 hours which look available on the seat map but we can't move into them. I have tried talking to BAEC line but unusually in my experience language skills were poor: did not know that I hadn't paid for seats as I am Silver, did not know that I did not have an infant with me, did not know the seats were released at T-72 and left me on hold for 15 minutes before I gave up.

IME, at about lunchtime UK time on the day three days before the flight (eg on Monday for a flight on Thursday) - the same as all the other things which become available when the edited seat map is released.

However:-

I'd say about half the agents I've spoken to about shifting to a bassinet seat don't know that it's possible. Fortunately they have all been willing to try - and succeeded.

YUL-LHR 3 class 777; best seat in J?

I am booked into 05K but is this an OK seat on a 3 class 777? It is a very short TA flight so sleeping is key.

Thanks

Globaliser Oct 3, 2014 8:14 am

Nothing to see here now, thanks.

AnneRamsay Oct 3, 2014 10:43 am

My favorite is 5A: rear-facing, but it's the only window seat where you don't have to hop over anyone's legs to get out. It feels very private, too.

11K is my choice. Full complement of windows (unlike row 5) and a great view of London on approach. 11A is also good as that side of the mini cabin is served by the CSD.

dc2447 Oct 3, 2014 11:12 am

anyone suggest the best Club world seat to sydney (777) for privacy, ease of access for getting in and out please? Views are a secondary concern.

This is my first trip booked in advance so have some choice.

For privacy you want a window seat.

For ease of getting in and out - you want the seat at the back of the cabin (probably row 16 if I recall).

11K must be a favored seat in the 777-300, as it is the only seat booked so far on our flight next September. We could take row 16 J and K so I don't have to climb over anyone to get out, but then we would be over the wing. So it's11 A and B ( we've never sat on the left side!!!) or 13 J and K for us.

AnneRamsay Oct 4, 2014 12:46 am

13K is wonderful.

The JFK checkin guys gave me a great alternative to a window on the 747 lower deck. I was the last to checkin (changed ticket to whatever the next flight was), so they gave me 20E with 20F free. Very Roomy, very private, comfortable

TangoThree Oct 6, 2014 1:34 pm

Flying to JFK next year and am currently looking at an empty UD & main cabin..

Is it worth paying to prebook seats? My partner can be a nervous flyer, so would require seats together, not sure if it's worth taking a risk and waiting until OCLI opens up.

TCM1976JJC Oct 6, 2014 5:14 pm

Paying to prebook a seat as you know, is entirely subjective and dependent on how risk averse you are. If you have the entire cabin choice now, I certainly would.

I recommend it but that's just me-again, contingent upon your personal situation. Enjoy the flight and the forward looking to it!

In addition, part of the answer hinges on whether you would like to sit on the upper deck, which many regard as a particularly special area on the 747. It may be that even if you weren't prepared to pay to pre-allocate seats on the main deck, you would think it worthwhile to pay for upper deck seats. If you need to pay to get upper deck seats, I think that there are only three pairs available to you (63AB, 63JK, 64AB).

Best seats for 3 people?

I'm travelling to JFK with 2 friends on 747. I have status so can select any seats.

What do you think the best seat combo would be? I've current selected 62A, 62B and 62J.

Realistically, I don't think you can do significantly better than that. Some might suggest 62K instead of 62A, but that's a perennial debate that's always a matter of personal preference.

First CW Flight - Seat Choice

I'm flying SFO-LHR on 286. I have no status, so if I want to pick a seat before OLCI, I'll have to pay. Right now only 1 seat open on upper deck, 64B. Lower deck is pretty much wide open.

I have scrolled through all of the seating threads and it seems like all the recs are for seats on the upper deck that are already taken. I'm travelling solo, soI can be flexible and normally I prefer aisle seats. Is 64B worth the extra charge? Is there any seat on the lower deck that might be worth swooping before they're taken? (Flight isn't until Xmas, so a good chance these will all be taken up) My biggest concern is getting stuck in the middle section of the lower deck, (less privacy) But it seems no access problems.

Can anyone offer their opinions? Thanks!

Those threads will also offer up the advice you need on the various seats on the lower deck too.

windowontheAside Oct 7, 2014 8:40 pm

I'm sure many will disagree but I wouldn't pay for any UD aisle seat. In fact, setting money aside for a second, I wouldn't choose any UD aisle over any LD window.

BenSenise Oct 7, 2014 10:10 pm

i definitely wouldn't pay for 64B which feels like it is basically in the galley. i would much prefer a window seat on the main deck.
my experience from YVR has always been that even though the seat map shows full, when i check in at exactly T-24 (exactly meaning i'm sitting with the cursor on the check-in button as the seconds tick down) I can get a good seat. very often 62A/K believe it or not.
of course, YMMV from SFO.

Out of interest, what is the debate (or benefits/draw-backs that people see) between 62K and 62A?

IIRC: 62K has the crew seat opposite. This shields 62K and 63J from each others' view. In addition, because 62K is rear-facing and the crew seat is forward-facing, you are looking at one of the crew members during take-off and landing.

So, you may think, the debate is close to being in "angels on pinsheads" territory.

I was in the CX equivalent of 63J (with 63K empty) many years ago, with the CC sat facing me (she was looking to the rear on that aircraft). She could have stayed there for the entire MEL-HKG for all I cared, but then I was invited to the jump-seat in the cockpit and forgot all about her.

I have always been fickle.

Seat query help please. I have booked 2 CW flights LAS-LHR (departs 20:30) on a 747. Now they have stopped F they are offering the seats as CW. What would be the best for a couple - 4 or 5E/F in the front cabin or 63AB, 63J/K or 64A/B in the upper deck. I am 5' 3" and he is 6' 2". TIA.

Hi,

Advantages of 4 or 5/EF:

Both pax are facing the direction of travel;
You may use the buddy seat for dining
Larger seat

Disadvantages;
smaller IFE screen
Seats may be a little worse for wear compared to CW.

I am doing CW to LAS next month ( chosen 1A) and will post comments on my return.

Regards

TBS

Thank you - we are not travelling till Feb 2015 so would love to hear your opinion (please let me know if it is NF or OF). Have a good flight.

Our choice is 2A&K. last time we did that we checked in at exactly T-24 and moved up to 1A&K. funnily enough, nobody grabbed row 2 and we had a very private flight.
It's a night flight and we just want to sleep. The front seats are better for that than rows 4 & 5.

xenole Oct 11, 2014 11:36 am

For 4 upcoming flights, I've booked:

LHR-IAD 777 13A
IAD-LHR A380 53A (picked up a seat mate today - window/aisle combos popular)
LHR-BOS 747 64A (only person in CW on the flight so far)
BOS-LHR 777 13A (again)

I'm flying Mex-LHR in CW next month.

Apologies for the rather noobish questions, but our corporate policy only allows us to travel WT+, so thought I'd use some miles to treat myself on my last work trip of 2014. And because recent OpUps on CX have now spoiled me for WT+.

I know this isn't the best route to upgrade to CW for all the side benefits, as the MEX lounges are apparently rubbish, it's a night flight and arriving too late to use arrivals lounge (1pm). I was, however, wondering what the service is like on this flight if anyone has experience? I'm hoping for at least a slightly better dining experience before a good 6hrs sleep.

Also, thanks to corporate TA I can select my seat now, so I've gone for UD 62a for novelty (to me) and it's apparently slightly cooler in this seat than the rest of the UD - I hate being too warm to sleep. I am, however a shortarse and would sit in 64k if the temp diff is not too much to bear for more privacy and to allow a longer legged passenger a better seat. I'm slightly torn trying to choose the best seat.

Thanks in advance!
