(She ducks in anticipation of a flurry of comments of 'pay for the class of room you desire!') but as I am quite prepared to be satisfied with what I've booked. (As long as we are not over the disco!)...
I stayed at The Modern on my last run and it was the reason I booked HNL for my next run in August. I don't normally like big hotels but this one is really lovely, and although it's not cheap I did feel it was excellent value in context of all those Chintzy Towers charging 'resort fees'.

I wouldn't worry about the room category as there's actually very little in difference and the pool areas are so nice you won't miss a balcony. The food and service are excellent, too.

I'm nervous about getting too close to the reef (cutting myself and damaging it) - a lot of it around Honolulu and the island.
it was rather calm in Hanauma Bay when I went. However current is very strong further from beach.

I cut myself at Sharks Cove as waves were throwing me back and forth when I was leaving the water.

I wasn't impressed with any of these places since I spent quite some time snorkeling in Red Sea which is very beatiful and coral rich.

What a nice surprise bumping in to atmorris and Markie in the lax flagship just now. Shame we only had a brief chat before I had to leave for my flight.

Btw, I am on the 737 at 42a so wave from the lounge chaps - I am in 5f so can see the flagship from here.

I'd assumed dinner and drinks. Is there a table booked? What name if so?

Aloha All, from the DoubleTree,

KARFA, It was good to meet you and Markie too,

I have finally arrived at the hotel in HNL, after been delayed by 2hrs out of LAX due to late inbound AA3.

I havent booked a table, as a few people where a bit unsure if they wanted to do a dinner and drinks, so thought it best to play it by ear, so couldnt really book a table without firmed up numbers..

See you all soon

Ok thanks, I think having looked at the menu we'll probably eat there.

Speaking of eating, if anyone is planning on driving up to the North Shore, I highly recommed Kahuku Grill for something to eat.

i had stopped following this thread, as I am jealous!!

Enjoy LuLu's ... Not posh but a nice place to be.

T8191 ... Envious

PS: don't forget to have a look at the Garlic Shrimp stall outside the Pacific Beach hotel ... Shrimp and rice and a bit of salad in a go-box for $6.99. Not every day, and afternoon/early evening only.

Working on it already ... Just need to get the 241 UVF in F sorted first.

Should I start from DUB?

We popped into Lulus yesterday for a drink and what a view looking over Waikiki beach. Held off food as want to enjoy it tonight. Sorry to add to your angst T8191
