I would not recommend this whatsoever. You would very likely get a negative response from the passengers in 62A or K who would probably not take kindly to some stranger asking them to get out of their seats, and I would suspect once the CC spotted you bothering the UD passengers they would quickly send you back from whence you came!

There are security rules regarding visiting the upperdeck, but as long as you are escorted and introduced to the upperdeck crew it shouldn't be a problem, please do this outside of the meal services.

The BA UD is relaxing to be in but not that exciting to see. JAL have (had?) economy in the UD on intra-Asia flights, which is also delightful. I doubt BA would deny you the ability to view the upper deck, but I don't think peeping in would give you much of a feel for what it is actually like to fly in it.

There are some people on this Forum with either a serious sense of humour failure and/or ideas of grandure.
If you want to visit the upperdeck just ask. Equally, if you wish to visit the flight deck just ask. If the crew can accommodate they will. During a food service the UD will likely be out of bounds. In fact the crew will likely prefer that nobody walks around what with all the trolleys etc.
As for the flight deck, you'll be refused but may be offered a visit after landing.
The shortest flight with an upperdeck is about 6 hours so another passenger coming upstairs and taking a look is hardly that bothersome. Those facing forwards would hardly notice.

I'd say asking without taking anything for granted is the right approach. Plane cabins have an ambiguous status. It's public transport with seats that anyone can buy, but the more expensive seats come with an implicit understanding of privacy, up to a point.
At least OP asked about the etiquette. Recently I was in a CCR cabana when a couple came in and wandered round. They told me not to worry, they just wanted to see what it's like inside. Un-bloody-believable was what I thought. If anyone else is curious, the inside is pretty well as it appears in photos.

Visiting the upperdeck has nothing to do with status but does have a security implication, as I said before please ask the crew outside of the meal service and I am sure someone will escort you up there.

I have to say I have just walked up to speak to friends (or even the Mrs) when flying in F and they were on the UD without issue. I was probably wearing F PJs though.

The UD is a nice place, but the flexing of the floor as people move around can be a pain in the a*s.

Too true. I referred to the footfall vibration in an earlier message on this thread. On some aircraft it can be quite "jiggly."
Okay, okay. I know I'm the last living dinosaur this side of the Milky Way who does not live their life on Twitter, Facebook or other media sites, and it's done quite on purpose. I find it the existential version of Dante's Inferno.
So relaxing in the upper deck, a space relegated officially to the pax and crew, I'd be sorely vexed to find somebody up there snapping piccies with their mobiles--only to find the next day I was ensconced on a social networking site in situ in 64-Something.
In this day and age when out in public or at an event, you can't "fight city hall" and will appear in places you don't wish to, due to this phenomenon.
But the one place I'd really like to think I won't be photographed and have my image spread on a social site would be...the upper deck of a 747---and only because somebody who was not supposed to be up there....is.
I know I know. They used to shoot old horses when got as redundant as I. But still....
your chances not only to visit the place but even to take photos,

I often wave boarding and disembarking and in all sorts of other situations.
I often feel for the queen when I have to do what I imagine royal visits must be like: get shown around, look interested, ask a non offensive but somehow relevant question watching someone else do their work / their thing, smile and move on......

The very first time that I flew CW I was on the lower deck. I wasn't aware of the rules and I was curious to look upstairs. I think that I got one foot on the first step before the FA on the UD (in the crew seat directly facing the stairs) told me that I wasn't allowed.
