Upgrading Using Avios (UUA)
Summary guide to bookings which can be upgraded with Avios:
  • BA issued tickets (can include other carriers) ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with only BA flights ^
  • TA issued (on BA stock) booking with other carriers
  • Tickets issued on non-BA stock
TA has to issue the ticket in the country of your BAEC membership as well.

Notes
  • The ITA Matrix tool cannot be used to book tickets.
  • Some TP runs can be booked online at aa.com. Be sure to use the Sort by schedule option in order to locate the exact flights you found on the ITA Matrix tool.
  • A guide to using the ITA Matrix tool can be found here.

Find the exact routing and flight numbers you want using ITA Matrix, then call up BA or AA and quote them to the agent over the phone. You might also need to give them the fare codes/buckets to get it to price up correctly.

If you just want a price then I would suggest getting it off itamatrix or aa.com. I don't see the sense in calling ba just to get a price, and I think your opportunity to keep them on the phone for several hours whilst you play about with different routings and timings is limited - this is the advantage of the online sites. When I go to book though either book on aa.com or call ba.

Sure, but for TPs better off with JFK-PHX-HNL (210+210, beeing 2 class First), slightly worse off with JFK-LAX/SFO-HNL (140+210), but more comfortably in transcon J 32B . Less TPs on JFK-DFW-HNL (60+210TP but with 763 on second flight, whereas most (all?) other "Semi-TPAC" are 757 )

Yes, in the sense that by selecting 1 or fewer connections it will list JFK-LAX-HNL, and JFK-PHX-HNL (more TPs as noted by onobond) and other connections for getting between JFK and HNL. So you could see where you want to connect based on timings, TPs and any other factor which is important to you.

Same with itamatrix, although there you can specify in the routing codes specifically where you want to connect if you have already decided that.

I have just returned from a 1740 Tier point run which included several AA trans-continentals plus a Hawaiian return leg. I fly to Hawaii quite often and know all the airports well.
If you do a Hawaiian leg from LAX on AA then you will be flying on an AA757 as this is the only plane they fly from LAX to the Hawaiian airports(HNL,LIH,KOA,OGG). The AA757 is undoubtedly the worst plane to fly AA First on.
All the 757s are now quite old and are pretty shabby inside, if you are lucky you will get the beige leather First seats which are marginally more comfortable than the dreaded cloth seats. We groaned when we saw on boarding our flight to OGG at LAX last week when we saw the cloth seats and unfortunately we had the same cloth seats on the way back from OGG three days later. After about an hour and half of sitting in these seats your backside will ache as they are so hard.
The IFE on the AA757 consists of a drop down CRT monitor above the centre section and generally they show one film plus several popular TV shows.
Food used to be good on the Hawaiian leg with nice table cloths and an orchid plus Hawaiian themed meals - AA have been engaging in "enhancements" and the tablecloth has gone together with the orchid. Food is now canteen quality at best.
By contrast, I did a back to back trans-continental from LAX to DCA on one of AA new 737s. Seats very comfortable, IFE is great with lots of films, TV series etc and the food was acceptable

Yes I did research the US option out of PHX to either KOA or HNL but I did come across the view that US First on the 757 is even worse than AAs and given the flight is 6 hour plus I figured I would duck the pleasure.

Not sure if this might be useful for anyone here. Check my TP math, but it appears to be 1,360 TP for about 1,112 GBP. No visa is needed for ASU for UK and EU passports. You can also sub SAN for PHX if you want to avoid US metal or want an overnight in SAN.

pick the flights that do not have any other options and put 2 sectors into 1 eg BOS-HNL will only come up with via PHX or LAX and choose the one you need or BOS-HEL pretty much has via LHR as the primary option
This was all a lot easier when the AA network was a known quantity, you could safely put in BRU-BOS knowing that it had to be via LHR and BOS-HNL had to be via LAX but since everyone just enters flights from further up the thread somewhere knowledge of the network plays little part in how they construct their routing

I had no option but to go via PHX to ANC and it was grim, if Alaska hadnt been such an amazing place I would be happy to never fly US again

ITA price vs Airline website

Hello

I found the following on the ITA matrix

BRU-DOH-BKK-DOH-BRU
Qatar airways
All in I class
Out: 03/10/14
Rtn: 05/10/14

Price was 1447gbp, at 520TP it looks like a good TP run.

I entered the exact flights into the Qatar website and the price is circa 2100gbp.

Is there a lag in the ITA software or could this fare be booked over the phone?

Thanks

I believe there is one 763 LAX HNL rotation a day. We "lost" the 763 in MIA LAX in November but "gained" it on LAX HNL.

Will also be doing US 757 and 321 for first time on way back via PHX so better brace ourselves.....

Nice find though the lay overs outbound are a bit painful and a bit tight on the way back.

Did you find wide availability in terms of dates?

Did somebody ask something similar earlier today and someone who knows this stuff better than me replied and said there was an issue with QR in that fare would show on itamatrix that were no longer available? Sorry, I have tried looking for it but can't find the thread. You may be better off asking about this on the QR forum if you want yo book on QR stock with QR flights numbers.

According to EF, there's no I availability on the outbound with either the US POS or UK POS. EF doesn't have a French POS so no way to be sure that there isn't any there, but probably unlikely.
