As a Blue member (for about 2.5 years and about 45 flights out of which 6 are longhall)

ET to CE: 0%
WT to WTP: 0%
WTP to CW: 0%

As a Silver member (since the past 15 months and 32 flights out of which 6 are longhall WTP)

ET to CE: 0.26% (just once)
WTP to CW: 0%
WT to WTP: N/A not flying WT anymore (thankfully).

Not sure if that one occasion could be called an op up. was flying CDG to LHR and was waiting in the AA lounge at CDG as the flight was delayed by an hour. Because of my disability, I have to be guided from the lounge to the boarding gate and special assistance guys were late in coming that day. So I was the last to board and everyone else on the plane were settled in already. The CSM was kind enough to suggest that I sit down in one of the free CE seats. I guess they were ready to go and taking me down to the back of the plane and finding space for my case would have taken a bit longer. Good for me as I got to have some chicken salad which was pretty good.

Since OH got Gold (about 7 years ago) then we have had 0 UG's when travelling together.

I have only had 1 WT+ -> CW UG in last 4 years - LHR-BOS. No other UG's at all

At least it looks like BA follow some kind of loyalty recognition programme.

My op up rate at EK when I was Gold was around 5%. When I dropped back to Silver, it shot up to over 30%.
Others have reported similar stories.

It is of course route dependent... I fly to and from Moscow very regularly which tends to be very full in all classes except WT+ where I usually fly.

Therefore out of 28 WT+ sectors in the last few months, I have had one OpUp to CW... lower than 5% therefore

Also, there tends to be an enormous number of golds on this route and even a CIV of 80+ means I can be 10th in the pecking order

Highly pertinent post ... OpUp will occur when there is pressure from below.

On my IAD run there is very rarely a full UD, so the 'need' for BA to move people into F is minimal to a vanishing point.

As a Silver: 0%

As a Bronze: 0%

As a Blue: 0%

And here's the anomaly:

As a non-member:
WT+ --> CW: 50%

It builds character!

That being said, SFO-LHR is about as long as I would consider going in Y.

As a Silver-
ET-CE 0%
WTP+-CW 0%
CW-F 0%

As a Blue

ET-CE 2 op ups both as couple
CW-F 0%

Naturally I have no expectations of an op up based on experience

Well this is bloody odd.

I keep reading on this board derogatory comments as to how AA (and indeed all the US majors) fill up their premium cabins with upgraders, whereas on BA you can expect to fly the cabin you paid for.

But the very existence of this thread suggests otherwise. And indeed many of the anecdotal figures imply that a rather high level of operational upgrading takes place. (I have always believed this to be so.)

However, let me now balance my remarks - My BA op-up %age is 0%!

It is only on Domestic flights that the legacy US airines upgrade their FF. On BA of course there is nothing to upgrade to..

About thirty years ago Mrs Antichef and I, both Blue Card at the time, got upgraded from economy to Club on LHR-YYV and back IIRC.

Don't think I have had one since with BA. I usually fly in the cabin that I have booked.

Used to get them regularly with bmi as a BD*G on the BHD-LHR-BHD (Air)bus to work

Edited to add (following comment later down thread for analysis): I am a BA Gold for about six years and fly dozens of sectors per year.

Zero % op up rate across all classes as a Blue, Bronze (although was only at this tier for one flight) and Silver. As Gold, lets see but again I usually expect to travel in the class I paid for and gave up hoping for a special beep a while a go (when it did happen once It meant I had to have my hand luggage searched again at the gate!)

Yes but in the US, a domestic is a 6 hour JFK-SFO run with 3 class 767 service.
In the UK a domestic is a 45 minute 1 class A321.

I don't particularly care for an upgrade on UK domestic. US transcon? Yes, please.
