Transfer in DXB (Dubai) from BA to EK
Hi,
I am booked on two different tickets, when flying in December connecting from BA in DXB to EK with final destination CMB. Now my question, is BA still not checking through luggage to EK, if the booking is on two different tickets?

•Baggage will normally be checked to your final destination, provided your journey is on the same ticket. However, if you hold separate tickets for the flights in your journey, British Airways will only through check your baggage to your final destination if the connecting flights are operated by British Airways or by another oneworld airline.

What happens here though?
You have to collect your luggage - clear customs and then go through all the check in process again correct?

That seems to be the natural and inevitable consequence of the fact that your bag is tagged only to DXB in the same way as if you were about to spend a week soaking up the sun there.

I will let you know after I've flown it in December. But I have already spoken to an Supervisor of EK's Airport Services for Ramp and Baggage. She told me that I should first try to somehow persuade the check in dragons and if that's not possible, I shall directly proceed to EK's First Class Lounge in DXB and they will pick up and recheck my baggage for me.

What would happen if the transfer occurs in a country you don't have an immigration visa for? How are you expected to clear immigration to get your bags to re-check?

If you don't get a transit visa, you're mostly screwed. The only other oppurtunity would be to get the airline to pick up your baggage and relabel it. But usually that's the reason why you have all these interline agreements... BA just doesn't want to take responsibility for lost luggage!

If the baggage is not checked through to the final destination and you require, but do not have a transit visa, you will likely be denied boarding by BA in the first place:

You won't even need a VOA. You'll just get an entry stamp.
I will say that transferring landside T1-T3 at DXB is an almighty pain. Either a not-well-signposted minibus that goes when it wants, or pay for the metro (luggage not allowed). Or try to talk a taxi into taking you.
Airside is much easier. Go to transfer desk, get boarding pass, clear security, walk quite a lot.
