I hate it when people give blow by blow accounts of trips, but...

So I'm sitting in the CCR at LHR, en route to the US

Knowing that I'd have to show my passport before getting through security I elected to check in with a real person. She was very friendly, but lo and behold didn't press the right button to 'add' my passport to the booking. I got rejected at security

Security was slow

Had to navigate congestion outside the CCR of everyone trying to get through the door (the three people infront of me were all turned away)

Got into the CCR to find staff arguing at the bar over whose break it was

Was served a glass of Pinot Noir that was so obviously off (or laced with carpet cleaner)

The antipasti was nice ^

But served with toast rather than some "rustic" bread?

I can only conclude that you lot - yes, all you out there - have set my expectations far too high.

Although I'll refrain from further comment until Saturday when I get to see the joys of the UA FCL in ORD again.

Try standing on your left foot. That should solve your problems. At least it works for computer related problems.

Really annoying when you get rebuffed and mucked around because someone isn't paying proper attention to their work.

I think that's reboot and then hit it hard, actually.

I'll be visiting there next week.

My expectations are pretty low I have to say.

Crazy thing is, the agent actually ran my passport through the scanner on the keyboard. She did it twice as the first time it didn't seem to pick up properly.

Hey ho - at least the flight was good, the steak just about edible and I was very quickly through an empty immigration & customs hall on arrival.

As Swanhunter keeps telling us......"a lounge is only a waiting room after all"........then he usually goes on to moan about the food.

The UA/RCC lounge at GRU was a surprise I have to say with some decent petite snacks on offer. We got to them first which was just as well as you needed about ten of them to make a mouthful.

I'm pretty confident even the CCR on a really bad day knocks spots off of the UA F ORD lounge though.

I'll offer blow by blow updates from the UA FCL on Saturday

Currently in the AA club at LGA. Must admit, I love the views, even if it does fail on some other counts!

Swiss Tony, I'm interested to read your comments about the CCR as I will finally get to use it at the end of October. I'm more familiar with the LGW F Lounge, which is nice, but I'm hoping for a different experience at LHR.

So now I am off to find all the CCR/FIRST/cabana threads on FT that i can get my hands on!

It is more or less the same. Hardly any difference in ambience or F&B.

(So, expectations properly lowered, it can only be a good surprise now!)

Lucky you, when I was at JFK on the 14th the visitor's line was so ling that it almost reached the doors of the plane. Even the citizens line was outrageously long. When I asked the officer he said cuts, and a freeze on hiring. He said that a month ago the wait was around 5hrs long. I said bad image for the US.
