There is no charge for a UAE visa for UK passport holders.

Guys,

I found this thread via search. It's 3 years old - but i'm hoping I'll get a response or two.

I'm a US passport holder - so I believe I qualify for visa-on-arrival. I've got a 2.5 hr layover coming up at AUH, during an upcoming trip.

During this layover, I'd love to leave the sterile area (air-side) and go land-side - and meet some friends/family (who'll come to the airport).

My questions are:
1. Does UAE allow visitors inside the airport, at arrivals? (I ask because for example, at BOM, only ticketed passengers are allowed inside the airport)
2. Is 2.5 hrs safe-enough time to stand-in-line for the visa-on-arrival, leave, and then come back thru security for my next flight?

Thanks!

-G
