Window seat or aisle?

I have never lost the desire I had as a child to sit near a window on each flight. I now fly around a hundred times a year but still feel agrieved if I cannot see out. When flying with my g/f she gets the window and I lean over, for obvious reasons. On big longhaul jets I tend to spend a fair amount of time staring out of the door portholes when walking around.

Talk of silent flying wings with theatre-style seating and minimal windows frightens me.

When travelling in Y/W on my own I prefer an aisle seat on either side of the plane, not in the bank in the middle. If with wife/family I'll happily let them take preference as they don't fly very often.

In J I prefer the window seats for additional privacy.

Never sat in F so couldn't comment there

Window in J/C and aisle in Y for me - although on the wide-bodies I tend to got for an aisle in the centre section as from experience, there is much more chance the seat next to you will be empty.

Particularly where there is 4 across the middle, like on a 330 or 340 (not BA with these although I guess the 744 has 4 in the middle) as there tends to be a couple travelling together, then an empty seat, then me on the aisle ^

OK, I'm bored...a complete saddo list:

ET - Aisle on the left (preferably the first row, of course!)
CE - Aisle on the 2-side (or in the middle on a 767)
WT - Thankfully a distant memory for around the past 5 years ^ But aisle on the left block of 3 if I had to
WT+ - For a 38J 744, 17B on a day flight, 17K on a night flight (I seem to sleep easier leaning on the right in towards the body of the plane). On a 70J 744, the single seat obviously...and on anything else, same first row theory as the 38J 744.
CW - window seat for privacy. 64A or 64K on a 744 followed by 14A or 14K. 4A/K on the 3-class 777s, otherwise 10A is fine by me
F - not done yet...

I prefer the aisle -- I usually get up a lot during long flights and it saves my seatmate trouble if I sit in the aisle seat. I tend to favor the left side of the plane.

I'll do a saddo list too.

ET - exit row window seat. I'd rather have the added seat pitch over the wider CE-style seat at the front.
CE - 02A. Never a bulkhead (unless it's a 737-500 or -300). Always an A seat.
WT - aisle seat on the left. In the 'mini cabin' on the 744 if possible.
WT+ - single seat or any window seat on the left.
CW - not travelled in it but I'd probably go for an upper deck window.
F - 01A or 02A. Though I'd take any seat in F!

Edit: on the 767, always an A seat. I can't stand seats in the middle section - no windows.

While I have no opinion on the topic, I would like to congratulate the OP on being one of the seemingly few FTers who can actually spell "aisle" correctly. This is one of my pet peeves (right after people who use multiple punctuation marks in a row as if that will get them a better answer to their question).

ET - front row aisle on the left. Failing that, aisle on the exit row(s)
CE - aisle on the left, middle on the 767, never a bulkhead
WT - what's that?
WTP - what's that? and on the rare occasions I am there a bulkhead aisle or the 'captains seat' on the 70J 747
NCW - Controversially I now favour 14AK, then 62AK on the 747. 15AK or 10AK on the 4 class 777, 1A on the NCW 767
F - 2A

Swanhunter - seems we have rather similar preferences! Whilst hoping of course we never end up competing for the same seats on the same flight , on this basis I shall be trying to get 2A in F when I finally book my Amex 2-1 to YVR for later this year ^ (Edit: assuming that doesn't cause any problems for my companion...in which case it'll be the EF seats, I guess!).

14A is a great seat, I had the pleasure of this once on an U/G from W, and the check-in lady said "I've put you in one of my personal favourites, very private and no-ones legs to climb over" - however it is a tough call between this and the upper deck.

Everyone seemed to spell it correctly immediately before your posting?

Just you try and steal my favourites from me.

Depending on how close you are to your travelling partner 2A will either be:

a) fine if you cope with a bit of time apart (i.e 6 ft away and with a companion seat)
b) deeply traumatic if you need to indulge in a PDA every 30 secs.

Should you decide to PDA away, go for 5EF rather than 4!

And if you are travelling with a friend, relative or colleague, apologies for the presumption!
