Mostly all done, with just 3 legacy channels South (2 CT channels when finished) remaining and the same in North. If you are Fast Track from landside South you will probably get a legacy scanner, FT North it's 50/50, but all First Wing, all T5B, T5C, almost all T5A connections and most landside entries will now get CT. The remaining legacy scanners are the first to be switched off during off peak hours. Looking at the 2 last areas to go, I would say in about 6 weeks or so all of T5 will be CT, though it will take a bit longer to re-open the last two CT channel pairs at North and South.

Wherever I go in Europe and UK I am now getting CT scanners more often than not. It doesn't seem to have reduced the rate of secondary searches, but it does seem to have increased throughput by people taking less time to get their 'stuff' onto the conveyor. Outside of Europe I still get old scanners, but extremely low (0) levels of secondaries, so much so that I wonder if the scans they do serve any real purpose at all.

Does anyone know what the progress of this is at LHR? It's now, along with Stansted, the only 'London' airport that has the plastic bag rule left now....
Interestingly, none of the London airports (Even LCY) have reversed the 100ml rule like Birmingham and Edinburgh have...I wonder if the London airports have been asked to launch this all at the same time so we're waiting for Heathrow/STN.

If you use a security lane with CT scanners, then the biggest restriction you should encounter, is the 100ml rule. Plastic bags for liquids are not necessary. This is certainly the case at LHR T5 First Wing, LGW Fast Track, and Manchester T1/T2. I can't speak for others.

Does anyone know what the current status is at T5 not-first wing? I haven't been through the non-FW channels for a while (before the summer) and a colleague asked if they can take 330ml drinks cans through. The LHR website seems to suggest all of T5 is now any container up to 2ltrs, kept in bags (as per TFW) but I was wondering if anyone could confirm this?

Also, there appears to be some information suggesting 2ltrs are OK but maybe not metal containers, although I think this is referring to vacuum/hip flasks rather than cans. There's lots of information in the First Wing thread on these scanners but as far as I can see the last update for the rest of the security lanes is that there was still a chance of getting an old scanner lane/having to take liquids out.

In answer to my own post - I have ended up at LHR this evening a day earlier than my next planned trip. I went through normal South security at T5 (not FW, not Fast Track). I spoke to the security staff and indeed took a can through Now in Galleries South.. I noticed no difference to the experience I've had through the first wing recently.
They confirmed that the rules across the whole of T5 are now the same for everyone, regardless of security channel.
- No limit on number of containers
- 2lt per container maximum.
- All devices and liquids left in bags
- Vacuum bottles or containers (i.e. vacuum coffee cups/Stanley cups/Yeti mugs) must be emptied before security.
- Plastic bottles or drinks cans do not need to be emptied.

This is good news! It was probably also the case on Tuesday, but I wasn't aware and checked my hand luggage in to avoid the (non-existent) issue.

"Liquids in containers up to 2 litres can remain in cabin bags and be taken through security in Terminals 2, 3 and 5."
It doesn't mention flight connections.
