Without wanting to come across all 4 Yorkshiremen, but have you tried connecting at MAN, as I did from DUS en route to ABZ. The phone to summon the connection centre bus rang engaged for 15 mins, security had a major attitude and then the border agent was not at post for a further 20 minutes. Ended up complaining to both MAN and border force. Joke of an airport.

I had to wait 40 mins as they kept prioritising other bags and I asked to speak to someone was passed from pillar to post then told my feedback/complaint wasnt valid as it was my fault I left the contraband in.i was fuming so tweeted Manchester Airport and they only sent mateyboy to the BA lounge that said they wouldnt log my complaint. After an initial period of awkwardness we had a decent conversation. The problem is Manchester Airport are blind to criticism so no way its going to change. Im told staff search is just as bad.

You forget a lot of people travel HBO. My bag went to secondary screening because I left a can of deodorant in there. Totally my fault, hands up because its my same work bag that I use daily and I forgot it was there.

MAG are truly awful. They arent doing a much better job at EMA but thats by the by. Youd think that theyd want to get people through in a reasonable timescale as that cuts down the amount of time that they can spend in the various retail emporia.

Manchester airport is culturally broken.
They deliberately accelerate the non priority queue
They take items out for scanning which are not required (hair straighteners)
They pull bags in for additional scanning if you question this
They refuse to help disabled/elderly passengers
It is hell on earth. in the course of my professional life I have met some senior mangers from the airport and they acknowledge it but do nothing.

I don't know why it took so long for me to drop off my bag at Manchester Airport this morning. I reached the priority queue at 815 am for the 0950 flight to lhr and left the check in just after 9am. The priority queue was a lot slower than the non priority lane. The check in staff often left their desks for a long time. I made it to the lounge where they had already made the boarding call. The lounge reception said that the Menzies check in staff were short staffed and in the future they suggested to budget more time for check in to BA at Manchester. Hope that is helpful for the Manchester folk.

Standing in the 'priority' queue on my last trip via MAN T3 (connecting at LHR to the Air NZ) one of their security guards barked that if your bag went to secondary screening it was your own fault so take your stuff our your bag or we'll make you wait 20 minutes. This was addressed to the queue in general and he was clearly unhappy working at MAG security. There is a real 'us and them' attitude about passengers at MAN.
Doing the LHR T5 >T2 connection was breeze in comparison.

It's worth pointing out that many people working in MAG are very much aware of the shortcomings and wish it were otherwise. After all they will have friends and relatives who pass through the airport and hear their tales of woe too. And some responsibility lies with senior management (e.g. not investing in T3, which is cramped all over but particularly around security). However the good news is that perhaps the Which? report has spurred some attention by the powers that be, in terms of considering improvements. I think it may well be dawning on some of MAG's bigwigs that they are losing customers by reputation alone.
