Gatwick-JFK flights BA 2272 & 2273: 3 or 4 class cabins?
My incoming BA flight lands in LGW and I need to get to JFK. So the obvious choice would be to get the connecting flight BA 2273 LGW-JFK so that luggage is checked through from origin to final destination.
But BA2273 (& BA2272) has no First class tickets on sale, although the last time I flew that route (6 months ago), the plane was a 4-class 777 jet with Club World having access to F cabin. Seat Guru always seem to give the 4 class cabin on this route.
Is it still the case or does BA put the normal 3 class cabin on this route? I will be using GUF2 to upgrade my entire CW booking to First, but this upgrade is not applicable on BA 2273 at it has no first. But at least, if the plane is the 4 class cabin - albeit with only CW seat being marketed-, i can expect to access the F cabin.
Obviously i have the option of collecting my luggage in LGW and making all the way to Heathrow to enjoy Concorde lounge and a first class seat on a B747, but is it worth the hassle? I'll be doing the return trip as well.
thank you

I think those services are now scheduled to be operated by the higher density 3-class 777-200 planes so there's no First cabin and I think only 4 rows of Club. That said, operational changes may result in other aircraft being substituted. However, I don't think F is now available at all on the LGW - JFK services.

It has always been sold as 3 class and normally operates as 3 class, given the limitations of the LGW fleet. Moreover I suspect Flub class only operates in the JFK - LGW direction on very rare occasions to help out JFK in times of need, as a general rule. Whenever I see "is it worth it", there can only be one possible reply: you tell us! It's a value judgement and subjective to the nth degree. But the one question that could be asked is whether you have another opportunity to use the GUF?

Just to be clear, even if you use your GUF on your booking as noted the LGW-JFK route does not operate with an F cabin. If operated with a four class 777 the F cabin is not normally used unless CW is oversold. Even under those circumstances you should not have any expectation to be seated in the F cabin.
bear in mind when sat in F on a four class plane the seat may be an F seat but every other aspect of the service will be CW.
Use your GUF only if you think upgrading the other flights on the booking is worth it.
