Any recent experience of SYD-LHR?
Hi all,
I am due to return to home for Christmas from Australia and took the plunge on BA given a one way free upgrade to First.
Decided to take the upgrade on the return so that I could enjoy the CCR, and will be in Club for the SYD-LHR outward leg.
Just wondered whether anyone has been on the route recently and would share their experience? I hear that it is quite busy but I am a little apprehensive since its quite a remote outpost for BA these days!
Thanks.

I flew to and from SYD in F earlier this month. Three sectors were on the 777 and one on a 747 from SIN to LHR.
Brand new 777s (4 weeks old) which was great, except the hand basin in one WC did not operate from LHR to SYD; an existing fault that had not been fixed. The crew put the EC out of order, which was not sensible as the toilet worked and it was useful for changing etc. Managed to persuade the CSM on the second sector to leave hand get and wet towels, which worked fine.
The Mixed Fleet crew were generally good and certainly enthusiastic. Their lack of experience was noticeable, compared to WWF, but nothing too material. The WWF crew on the final sector were good too.
Food fine and cabins all full.
Enjoy the flights!

I am sure you will have a great flight. BA use the latest 77W on this flight with fresh interiors and great IFE.
Information about the window seats in CW can be found in this thread.
For information about the LHR<>SIN legs of the same flight (in F) see my TR.

Did the SIN-SYD leg a couple of weeks ago. Brand new aircraft, young and relatively cheery crew, although meal service did take a while to come out. SIN-SYD was maybe 80% full, but SYD-SIN was rammed.
At Singapore, skip the BA lounge and go straight to the newly refurbished Qantas lounge.

I do it regularly and often in F (although I do stop in Singapore a lot). Its fine.
If its your first time in F, you will enjoy every moment of it. The bit I used to enjoy most (and maybe still do a bit), is lining up to board with everyone else knowing that you will be personally escorted to your seat and offered Champagne (which I never take btw). Couldn't get the grin off my face.
The flight to SIN is partly a day time flight so make the most of this one while you are awake. You might sleep a lot on the SIN>LHR (especially if you are on SYD time zone) which of course doesn't give you the full benefit of F (meaning sleeping in F and sleeping in CW is not that much different really).
It can be busy. Which seat do you have?

Although 1A is the ultimate seat on the 747, its not the best on the 777 because it is close to the galley with all the associated noise. If you can, I would move back a row or two.

BA Lounge is OK but looks and feels tired. QF is fresher with much better food offering. Just remember you wont get called for the BA flights in the QF lounge.
