Guidebook about Brazil

Hi!

I will go to Brazil on February for the first time and travel there for one month and I would like to buy a guidebook, but cant decide which one to buy. I like the Rough Guides, but the last edition of RG to Brazil was published on 2009, so I think it could be a little bit out of date. For me the most important thing is to have good descriptions about the points of interest and reliable information about the hotels and transport. Hope you can help me with an advice, thank you!

Welcome to FT.Lonely Planet could be a good option although some versions are a little disappointing. Remember that you don't have to buy the whole, just the chapters you need. For transportation wikitravel good also be useful.

For the maps and info, I like this one:

Heavy to carry though.

For accomodation, depends on your style. Rough Guide, Moom, Lonely Planet cater more toward budget travlers IMO, while Fodors', Frommer's cater to upper end more.

For transportation, I think it's better to look at the GOL, Azul and TAM sites for flights and to learn to use the ANTT (main Brazilian) bus site for long distance bus transport.
None of them have good local directions for buses.

I also think planning in advance with the help of this forum and others like Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree gets you some good info and accomodation suggestions.

Lonely Planet guidebook to Brazil was published in 2010. Next one is due in December 2013. Downloading the individual chapters is good if you're going to just a couple of areas and don't want the historic and other background you won't get.

Thank you all for the answers, in the end I got them both - printed version of Rough Guide (still waiting for it to be delivered) and an electronic version of Lonely Planet. I also have an electronic version of Frommer's (a bit older, 2008) so I guess I will find out myself which one is the best.
