Heavy to carry though.

For accomodation, depends on your style. Rough Guide, Moom, Lonely Planet cater more toward budget travlers IMO, while Fodors', Frommer's cater to upper end more.

For transportation, I think it's better to look at the GOL, Azul and TAM sites for flights and to learn to use the ANTT (main Brazilian) bus site for long distance bus transport.
None of them have good local directions for buses.

I also think planning in advance with the help of this forum and others like Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree gets you some good info and accomodation suggestions.
