I then need to connect from ZRH to Glasgow via LHR most likely but not really fussy

That shouldn't be a problem -- too many options to sensibly post here, but the ICC should (!) be able to find you something suitable once you've selected the TATL.

I'm totally new at this so here goes..

I want to go to DXB from FRA. Does it matter that I'm starting my journey at DUB will I want to pay for a connecting flight myself (rather than use my miles)?

I want to fly in business with LH around march next year.. can anyone tell me if I can do this already, and how. I notice when I log into bmi I can only book bmi fights when I click on 'spend my miles'. Do I need to call the ICC?

Also I want to use miles plus cash. I assume it is the same 'price' with LH i.e. 30000 miles plus cash for business return?

are you planning a stopover of over 24 hours in Frankfurt, if not it is worth noting that FRA and DUB are both in zone 1 so it is the same number of miles from DUB and from FRA (zone 1 to zone 5)

yes it is (it is F that LH will only allow as miles only)

it is worth (if you have not already done so) signing up for ANA (details in the sticky) and checking the availability before you call the ICC

mrdisco Aug 31, 2009 12:35 pm

I don't wanna travel in F (well I do, but I don't have the miles!!), J will do :)

Will sign up to ANA now.

Are connecting flights free if your final destination is outside zone 2?

I.e. Is DUB -FRA - DXB in J the same as FRA- DXB in J? I assume not, but how do I calculate the fare?

It is the same (one thing that is not allowed is a stopover in Europe so as long as you are not planning one in Frankfurt there is no problem)
From DUB the least connections are LH via FRA or TK via IST.
Not done either in J but I am sure there will be some comments on which is preferable. (or you could book one one-way and the other for the return)

Excellent, thanks for your help!

Another question..

When I book a reward booking with bmi, will I be able to use the manage my booking function on lh.com? Or can I call and get seats assigned? Also if I book a reward booking in business, can I still use the lounge and get baggage allowance? Cheers for help y'all!

Thanks very much for checking for me IMH ^

Annoyingly I couldn't get the connections from TPA or MCO so ended up departing from MCO on LH in J which is what I was trying to avoid ^

Never mind, still better than Monarch cattle class :D

where2travel Aug 31, 2009 1:53 pm

I'm looking to book a C+M booking in Business class for:

MAN-YYZ on 27 Dec
YYZ-LHR on either 3 or 4 Jan

It's my first miles redemption so I'd just appreciate some reassurance I've gone about it in the right way and not missed anything obvious. Given it's travel over New Year, I was expecting availability to be limited and, after using ANA, it looks like I'm left with:

MAN-FRA-YYZ on 27 Dec (LH) with a 55 minute change in FRA.

YYZ-IAD-LHR on 3 Jan (UA) (there's not much more choice on 4 Jan) with a 4 hour change in IAD. The YYZ-IAD flight has no Business class - so will I just end up in Economy for that sector?

Are there any other options I could consider? I didn't really want to travel via the US on United but can see on 3 Jan, I'm probably lucky there's anything left.

Thanks for any help.

The Lufthansa website has very limited functionality IME for managing bookings, you can assign seats in advance by phoning (01) 8445544 (I assume you'll be calling from Ireland), normally this will put you through to an LH reservations centre but I have also been connected in the past to the Dublin Airport LH ticket desk who have been helpful in getting seats booked. If you don't have expertflyer, you can use the USA version of expedia to do a dummy booking on your flight and see which seats are available.

You will of course have access to lounges, BD lounge at Dublin and Lufthansa Business Lounges at FRA (Senator Lounges if you are *Gold) and you'll have the 30 Kilo Business class luggage allowance (50 Kilo if you are *Gold)

denCSA - thanks very much for your reply.

I'd rather fly from MAN on the outbound as I'll be visiting family in Cheshire for Christmas and it's very convenient for the airport. You are right that the connection in FRA is from LH to AC for the transatlantic leg (I missed that earlier when I was looking on ANA).

On the return, if I fly through ORD or IAD will I have any US immigration to go through (in transit with a UK passport)? I'm wondering what minimum connnection time I should accept. I like the idea of the 22.08 IAD-LHR because there is plenty of time at IAD and the later flight out helps with sleep on the overnight flight.

Thanks again.

Just ask the ICC to do it when you make the reservation. This doesn't work for every airline (and probably not with every ICC agent ) but I've done it for LH flights without any difficulty. As far as MMB on LH is concerned, BHDBOY's right: forget it.

Hi,

Looking to burn the 140K miles I've got on a trip for myself and the missus in Business.

Would someone be able to check availability for the following (or within a couple of days either side) please in C:

Sep 14th BCN -> NRT (or dep somewhere else in Z2, that's cheap easy to get to from MAN :))

Sep 22nd NRT -> SFO

From SFO, we'd like to drive down the PCH, across to Vegas, then back up through Sequoia, Death Valley, Napa to SFO.

Oct 8th SFO -> MAN

Many thanks

Seems like you'll have a tough time on the return SFO-MAN, all I could find on 8th and 9th of OCT is the following:

It will take more time, but you can probably construct an itin with multiple stops though. Just be creative.
