E+ on BMI

I apologize if this has been discussed before.....

I am thinking about trying BD from ORD-MAN and had a question. I am *G, can I select an E+ seat for Economy $$ like UA? It appears their new E+ is similar in width as the current UA business seat.

Has anyone had luck with this? How is the service on this flight vs a UA from ORD-LHR?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FT - we have a BMI forum on FT that is where this question belongs. I'm sure a mod will move it for you (no need to double post).

No. They sell it as a separate product/cabin, and *G will do nothing to get you into that cabin (unless there is a need to op-up due to overbooking in Y).

Yes, they won't allow you to be in it with *G, but may offer for you to purchase it at check-in.

Sorry about the wrong thread - I assumed that it probably wouldn't happen. I guess my main question now is whether E+ is worth paying for. It is a very small premium over what I would pay for a UA flight.

It's not just more seat pitch as you're used to on United. It really is a different class of flying, between economy and business. The seats are much better than economy, for example, not just further apart in the direction along the aircraft.

*begin plug here*

I did a little review of Premium economy in the trip reports section, or click here.

*end plug*

Unless you have BMI Gold status with a Gold Upgrade Voucher, the chances are you'll have to pay (subject to capacity on the day).

Personally, for a 49" Pitch, Alcohol included, and a lot better service (and a pretty reasonable seat if you're going to be sleeping a bit) its worth every penny.

Providing you don't get a remote stand at Manchester, it'll also get you nearer to the front of the immigration queue as well, as PE cabin is second to disembark from the plane.

If you do take the PE option, enjoy it

Thanks, great info so far - one more question. I noticed in another thread that there are dataports in the seats. Is there internet for purchase during the flight, or is it just there for looks like some other carriers?

Dataport to MAN

Does it work? I read in a thread that the E+ seats have a dataport but want to know if it actually works.

Thanks

Hi Globalplanner and welcome to the BD board. I've merged this new thread in with your original thread. I suspect you haven't received an answer yet as it's a little unclear what you mean by "dataport". Do you mean laptop power? Or do you mean some kind of modem link? You presumably mean Premium Economy by E+? (It's very different from UA's interpretation of E+!)

In terms of your original question - compare BD's Premium Economy with UA's current cradle-seat C. It's a better seat, it's better IFE and it's better service. I've never eaten in BD Premium Economy but I imagine it's better food too (BD C is certainly better than UA F).

Sorry about the wrong thread....again. I see that there is power, I am looking for internet during the flight. If I am going to lose my bonus miles by not flying a UA flight I want to make sure it is worth it.

Thanks

If the $ difference is small (indeed, even if it was a few hundred) I would fly bmi PE on that route and forget about the RDM bonus / MM status miles for flying UA E+. Indeed, if my final destination was MAN rather than LHR I'd fly BD PE over UA C.

Thanks for the advice, that is how I am leaning - it would be handy if I had internet while I am in the air as well - do you know if that works?

No, I'm pretty sure there's no such service. There might be an airphone - I can't remember - which might offer some incredibly slow dial-up for extortionate rates, but it wouldn't be worth it. Overall airbourne internet hasn't, um, taken off. Run a search for Conexion (I think that's how it was spelt) - a Boeing service that was trialled by Lufthansa a couple of years ago and then quietly dropped...
