Which Scheme?????

Hope someone can help.

Currently have 40k miles on my BMI card (via the credit card) and 50k on SQ through flights.

About to spend the SQ miles on a flight. Fly SQ about twice a year to SE Asia and or NZ. Never fly BMI.

Just booked a flight (paid for) with SQ to NZ should I use SQ card or BMI? Also should I ditch the SQ card and use BMI for all future mileage?

Your thoughts would be be welcomed.

I would certainly recommend using bmi for all furture mileage. They'll happily comp you to *G status and the miles+cash scheme is simply unbeatable (IMHO).

Depends on whether the OP flies premium classes or not. BMI has one of the worst programmes if you fly down the back and one of the best up front.

It should be noted that whilst SQ's programme is pretty run of the mill, they do credit many fare classes where BMI would give you diddly squat. This needs to be factored into the decision making process.

Just be aware that,
for SQ flights,
BMI DC only awards miles at the following rate

1.5x for z c j d [Business/Raffles Class]
2.0x for f p a [First Class]

This is different to most other partners where they award 2.0x and 3.0x for Business and First respectivly.

might be worth doing both, I'm a little hazy, but i think you can double dip SQ flights, and have the value of them credited towards PPS, and have the actual mileage credited to a different ff prog.

Be aware that BD only credit SQ business class at 1.5x, whereas LH and SKs programmes credit at 2.0x.

The PPS programme has been radically "enhanced" so take this into consideration. More info of course is available on the SQ forum.

I don't think you can double dip anymore.
That was possible when PPS club was achieveable through accruing a set number of points per year. Now SQ are basing PPS club eligibilty entirely on flight value.
Worth checking the the SQ forum though.

So if I am reading this correctly, BMI is prob a better scheme but is a bit tight when awarding business class mileage on SQ flights.

Overall ditch SQ scheme (once I've redeemed all the points) and put all miles onto BMI?

Have I got the right end of the stick?

What is your preference, miles or status? Which carriers do you fly and in which fare classes?

TP & SA also only earn 1.5x in J (and 2.0x in F) whereas on both you would get 2.0x and 3.0x in LH's programme. There are also a few fare classes which don't earn well (e.g. Z on UA which is business class only earns 1.0x) so all this needs to factor into your decision making process.

That said, BD offers cash and miles and Gold is relatively easy to earn when flying up front.

Suggest you look at the fare table and look up the fare classes you regularly book.

https://www.flybmi.com/bmi/src/html/...earnmiles.html

LH and SK could be other worthwhile programmes to pursue - LH offers *G after 85K worth of flying (as their status bonus counts towards status earning) and is valid two years.

At the end of the day, they all have their pros and cons.

TP doesn't offer F, and, rather shockingly on SA, both F and J earn the same, i.e. just 1.5x.

F is likely to be disappearing from SA to, as they have grounded their 747-400 fleet on financial grounds and will now only fly A340's long haul.

Indeed. I'm quite sad about that! Had 4 excellent long-haul segments in F on SAA b/w LHR-JNB in the last six months. Ahhh well.

When did they change that? As of six months ago all the threads I was reading said that BMI as well as all other *A carriers will under no circumstances status match to other *A FFPs. I only had TG *G at the time and would have loved for BMI to status match me to *G. AFAIK, BMI many times will status match to non *A FFPs however.
