The miles value of a point
Thanks to a fellow FTer who asked to remain anonymous (let's call him ScottC), I'm now BD Gold.
For next year's travel, I'm looking into consolidating my mileage programs now that my primary program, SR's Qualiflyer doesn't look that attractive anymore
.
In order to assess the "real" value of BD I must compare the earning/spending ratios but as it uses points i/o miles you see where my problem is...

Bienvenue, celbrian. Sorry to see that you're slumming it over here in BD. I'm not sure whether ScottC has done you a favour or not...
Silly question: Did you mean a comparison with distance miles or BA miles? I guess you could compare the points/miles needed for certain destinations.
No doubt you're aware that *A earning/buring is more complex because some BD partners are more generous than others, even on the same point to point routes - LH, for example, earns you less for transatlantic, on the whole, than UA, BD or AC.

Hello Alastair,
It's not that I'm hidding from Pucci, but she did threaten to have Blair and me QUOTE slaving on the floor before her UNQOUTE...
BD is indeed a complicated program: CDG-WAS with UA earns 195 points (3830 miles) whereas CDG-SIN is only 170 points (6660 miles).
So in one case 1 point is worth 19.65 miles and in the other 39.18...
To further complicate matters, LH is very stingy in earning and quite generous in spending etc, etc, etc...feels like a math class to me!
Oh, and I mean distance miles.

celbrian, mon ami, thank you for being the first person on any talkboard, anywhere, to spell my name correctly. (With the possible exception of Gaza).
I *hated* mathematics at school and spent most of my time in classes trying to annoy the odious teacher, Mr Hunt (nicknames on a postcard please...) by using my watch to reflect sunlight into his eyes. Consequently, I can't add up, I can't even fiddle my expenses properly, and I have no idea what BD points equate to in terms of real miles. You've clearly done your own calculations, and I hope you've enjoyed passing your spare time so fruitfully.
I think Pucci was suggesting that you and blairvanhorn would be on the floor in relation to what may lie under Merry's grass skirt, Toxa's boxers (or, to a much lesser degree, my kilt). I can't speak for the others, but, in may case, I can assure you there's nothing to see.
Are you going to come here often (nudge nudge) or have you decided that your BD Gold status is, mathematically, not worth the hassle?

On the subject of drink, they've had the most awful cheap Italian white plonk in the BD T1 lounge in the past few days. I've been assured by the staff it's only temporary. It was so bad, it gave me headaches and I only had two glasses. Okay, maybe three.

The BD programme is basically very similar to how the Old BA scheme operated in the Uk. I certainly have no problem with it. I never have to chase up miles or points.
As for BD service well I have just come off their overnight Chicago flight and I have to say I am very impressed with the product on board.
Bmi have lauched a long haul product that they are obviously keen to build onjust like they have on all the other routes where they challed the comfortable satus quo.
The Bmi staff were fantstic, enthusiastic, friendly but overall extremely efficient. A credit to Bmi. Other "British" airlines could learn a thing or two from them.

Well to be perfectly honest, the only *A carrier I flew this year was TG domestic, and since I was flying C, the Gold card was pretty useless...but it does look cool in my wallet with it's transparent bottom half!

Okay, I just visited the BMI site and noticed I had been upgraded to gold. I wasn't at first, because they wouldn't accept a photocopy of my BA gold card as proof of status, but instead made me print out and fax them the "My Account" page at ba.com. Now there's counterfeit-proof material for you!
Anyway, I haven't received my actual kit in the post yet, so I need to ask: did you get the upgrade vouchers or not? I'm wondering if we have a "lite" version of the membership. I didn't get the 100-point opening balance either.

I'm now trying the KLM comping, BA gold to KLM Royal Wing
Will have to make some KLM flights to keep it but they will also match my BA miles if I make 100% or their required flights within 6 months, now that's a promo...
