I read that LOT was also ending YQ on award tix. Maybe it hasn't happened yet.

Europe could use a few more honest airlines like SAS.

You will get charged YQ on SAS awards..

Unfortunately "honesty" doesnt mean a profitable airline.

probably, since YQ is still part of a revenue ticket.
so BD can lump it in with "taxes"

LO doesnt charge YQ to M&M members as a "courtesy"

I'd wager that the BIETA between LO/BD specifies that YQ is to be charged on all coupons and does not make exceptions for award tickets. Whether LO charges it on its own stock is irrelevant, the BIETA terms are what BD has to apply. It is the exact omission that allows the "fuel dump" to occur when the converse does not exist in other BIETAs.

For the uninitiated, BIETA stands for Bilateral Interline E-ticketing Agreements - and that's refers to a table published in the IATA (International Air transport Association) MITAM (Multilateral Interline Traffic Agreements Manual), a kind of bible that airline types use.

Simples.

Actually BIETAs are not published in the MITA manual any more but are downloadable from the MITA Intranet on the IATA website.

Does Intranet access come cheaper than just buying the data itself?

Intranet access is free for all MITA member airlines. BIETA tables are updated weekly on the intranet and is the same document the public can purchase for $17k or whatever. I can probably send you a copy if you really need one (assuming my old intranet login still works).
