Help on the USAA underage waiver

I'm just wondering, if my friend has its membership but she doesn't have a driver's license. Can I use my driver's licence to rent the car but still using her USAA membership benefits for waiving the underage fee?

Thanks!

PS. I prefer Avis cause they have lower rate than other companies...

Technically no, the benefits only go to the actual renter.

However, you could just plug in the AWD and/or Coupon Codes and get the discount while renting under your name. (Unscientifically) 95% of the time, they won't check whether you are actually a USAA member. But they would be well within their rights to deny you the rate if they decide to confirm your membership.

Short-sighted and foolish move. If there is an accident or any damage, that's when Avis investigates. And, if OP is a scammer, coverage will be denied. A bit silly to defraud Avis of $20-30 and put $20,000-30,000 on the line.

Just sign up for USAA yourself- it takes about 5 minutes. Answer all the questions truthfully about military background(s), and you should have access to the discounts on rental cars, among other things.

Then, just print out a copy of your USAA welcome e-mail w/ your member number and take it with you when you rent, just in case.

There's no military requirement for getting a checking account with them and that is all that you need to access their rental discounts.

True

Agreed. Most USAA banking products do not require anything for elegibility. Auto insurance, etc, do.

OP can sign up if desired, and get the under-age driving waiver (I personally have used the USAA AWD since I became a USAA member when I was 18) and save considerable amounts of money.

Their AWD also has some insurance considerations, though that may be only if you have auto-insurance with USAA (mil/mil-related only).

Quote from USAA/AVIS website:
What benefits does my USAA membership bring to me in the event of an accident in U.S. in an Avis vehicle?

If the terms of the rental agreement are not violated and the vehicle has been rented from a participating location in the contiguous United States , the following benefits will apply:

In the event of damage to a rental vehicle, the renter's liability for damage to the rental vehicle is limited to the first $5,000 of damage without purchase of a Loss Damage Waiver (LDW).

Avis provides primary liability coverage of $100/$300/$25: $100,000 bodily injury coverage or death per person, to a maximum of $300,000 bodily injury or death for any one accident, and $25,000 property damage for each accident. The liability that will apply to a rental will be whichever is higher, the $100/$300/$25 (listed above) or the state limits.

Avis waives collection of Loss of Use fees. If a vehicle is involved in an accident, the renter is typically responsible for paying for the days their rental vehicle is "out of service". Avis has waived the right to collect these fees for USAA customers renting under the USAA program.

Avis waives collection of Administrative fees. If a vehicle is involved in an accident, the renter is typically responsible for paying a claim processing charge. Most insurance companies do not pay these fees, leaving the renter responsible for payment. Avis has waived the right to collect these fees for USAA customers renting under the USAA program.

Avis waives collection of Diminutions of Value costs. If a vehicle is involved in an accident, the renter is typically responsible for paying for the diminution of vehicle value as caused by the accident. Avis has waived the right to collect these fees for USAA customers renting under the USAA program.

Yep. I think the only category that non-military members are locked out from is insurance.
