^ thanks for this.

Yet again though Avis show their bizarre sense of website design. Why does a password HAVE to be 6 characters long? It's the same as the Avis First site. Never understood why this is the case.

Agreed, thanks for the heads up.

Beyond the website design, why do we have to create separate log-ins, including passwords, for these different promos? I now have 2 separate Avis special program websites to keep track of in addition to my account on their main site. Why can't these all be managed through our Avis profile? I can't even see what programs I'm enrolled in there.

Sorry for the rant...

IMO ...

these 5-day rentals frustrate the heck out of me.

why not make them 5 day rentals. To be honest, 5 "days" worth of rentals costs more than a single 5-day rental typically.

ugh ... i just never rent 5 days at a time.

if i do, i'm on holiday and that means, i'll use Hotwire to save a ton of $$.

oh well ... another vent i guess.

For everything I've seen, one 5-day rental is the same cost as five 1-day rentals (except maybe a few fees that are added per rental or for the first 3 days). However, with 5 short rentals, Avis has to staff their office 5x more, do 5x more paperwork and clean the cars 5x more. So for them, I'm sure they'd rather have 1 long rental than several short ones.

Spot on, IAHtraveler! That's why a weekly rental in N. America usually costs 4--5x the daily rate. My Avis rental in Detroit in October costs the same for 5 days or 7 (except for $3 or so in taxes/ fees.)

Thumbs down

Just what I need, another unusable "free 2 day weekend" from Avis. I have 6 or 7 "free weekends" from their other current Avis First program.

I rarely need to rent a car on a weekend, but when I try to use the certificates, the Avis location that I want to enjoy my free weekend either has that weekend blocked out for some event or just doesn't accept the certificates period.

Another lousy Avis promotion.

I really wish these coupons could be transferred/bartered! I use cars all the time when I go see friends/family for the weekend. Also, if I'm home & we're making a\ drive somewhere, I enjoy using a free weekend coupon. There's an Avis ~3 miles from home so it's very good for me. However, almost none of my coworkers use them... and they wonder why I want the car in my name every time?

Brendan, thanks for the alert.

I have a 4 day 18 hour rental booked for next month. I'll pay for 5 days. Any guesses on whether it will count? I think, from past promotion experience, it will.

I also say YES. Anything over 4days, 2 or 3 hours, so that a 5th day is charged.

+1. You'll be charged for 5 days so the system will credit you for the Drive Free coupon.

Oops! I forgot:

5000 DL bonus miles for airport rentals of >= 4 days that start on/ before 31 Dec 2008! Or 2500 for a 3-day rental--combinable with earning Drive Free!

I presume in addition to entering the coupon code one has to put one's DL number in to the rental agreement as well - otherwise how would they know where to post the miles. But nowhere do I see this in the link to the T&C's.

Gardner, your presumption is correct. It's not in the T&Cs of the offer because it's in the general T&Cs which require us to declare the FF# of one airline/ hotel co. of our choice for each rental.
Because the free weekend does not require a coupon # , only registration, the DL coupon # may be entered so we can earn 5K DL + a free weekend rental ! Too bad the bonuses for other airlines are much smaller.
