Rent in MUC drive to PRG

Hi,

Does anyone know if Avis charges extra for renting a car (Class C, VW Golf) in MUC and then driving it over the border to the Czech Republic? I would then drive back and return the car at MUC.

Thanks in advance,
Martin

I've been told in the past that the insurance policies that Avis uses in Western Europe are not valid for travel in Eastern Europe at all. When I rented in Dresden last year I was told that I could not leave Germany and enter Czech Republic or Poland, but that France, Belgium, Netherlands, etc. were fine.

Not sure if this has changed since then or not.

I rented in MUC last September and drove over there. I was never notified that I couldn't, but that doesn't mean it was legal I guess. Also, don't expect any upgrades. I called the CHM's desk and requested a nice Mercedes or BMW upgrade on my midsize. When I got there I received a Mercedes A150 (which is basically a Ford Escort).

I recently asked this question in MUC. Answer from Avis: only Opel is allowed to drive to Czech Rep.!?! Don't know, if it was a joke.
However, on my rental agreement the RESTRICTIONS showed into what countries I could drive. You may call Avis or check their website.
I know you asked reg. extra charge, but you might not even be able to enter Czech with a Golf.
I believe, Sixt allows some French cars to enter Czech.

Just do it so long as you have other insurances that will cover problems.

And if you want an MB or BM, get full-size. Then CHM should help.

On your Car Rental Agreement are ALL RESTRICTIONS! You get two pages, one in German & one in English.
BTW, reg. to (my) Avis Germany restrictions with a BMW 5xxx and 7xxx and Merc. E and S Class you can't even enter Italy. Porsche only in Germany, Switzerland and Austria!

I rented a Volvo XC70 wagon (Automatic) from Avis last year. I picked it up in MUC, drove through Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, and returned it in Berlin. I went through AutoEurope. They set it up through Avis even though Avis told me this was impossible when I contacted them directly.

I had the same questions, so I called AVIS today.
According to the rep, category B, C, D, G, H, I, K, L, O are allowed into Czech Republic. I am still not sure because most Hertz cars are not allowed.
Is there any pages on their website about such restrictions?
I could not find it.
