Avis Munich
I will be renting a car in Munich in a few weeks (19 day rental). Not fixed to Avis (I am First, but that does not mean much). I picked then because they had the best rate I could find from a larger firm (tried all the US ones plus SIXT, even when tried Europe Car came back with an avis rental that was nearly the same price). I have a few questions (renting a class D car since we want a trunk) that one Avis USA agent said I dont know when I asked. Do they provide cars with GPS and how do I request it (was not an option on the website)? Does anyone think they could beat a rate of $703 for this rental (I have full CDW coverage with CC that does include all the countries in Europe we will enter)? The paperwork for the rental says Liability Insurance (LI) Declined. I think this is actually the special CDW that reduces the deductible since I understand all rentals in Germany include liability by law. Is this true? Thanks for your help (and yes I did try a search but most references to MUC are a few years old and I am looking for recent info).

I've rented many cars in Germany on my corp rate (But not Munich). $700 for 19 days sounds good. Add VAT and you're probably looking at 840. Still not too bad. (most prices in Europe include VAT, but my rental cars always have the VAT in adition to whatever rate I was quoted in the states).
I've never needed a GPS but have been upgraded to cards with one.
I was upgraded to a Merc E class (from my reserved C Class) with GPS a few weeks ago. Came out to about $500/week.

Avis is running a special on the US website that gives you free GPS when you rent in Germany for certain car classes. Look under deals for US travelers traveling abroad.
Your price seems okay if you have not tried a coupon. If you have not used one, try this one D005927. You will get a good deal.
I will be renting in Munich in September, so let me know how it went ^

Thanks for the information Mandeson! I had used that same AWD on reserving the 1st time, but went onto the website and found the promotion you referred to. Reserved a standard (one car group higher) and rate dropped to $575 using D005927. Go figure (guess it pays to keep checking the site)? With this level I should get GPS as listed on site and saved $125 (plus VAT as someone else mentioned, but my res has a 19% tax on it that sure seems to match the VAT %). Would really like a car with a truck (many days of stopping with luggage in car). Does anyone know if they have cars in this group that at not wagons (yes I know I could go up to higher groups).

Just a follow-up. Got the car for the total rate (including VAT) for 19 days of $565 ($404 euros). Had reserved a standard manual, but they gave me a Volva XC70 (diesel). Very nice car and the Volvo GPS works very well (nice for France with all of those traffic circles). Put 2500 km on the car and had a great trip.

I rented my AVIS in Berlin and drove down to Munich --- and of course on to the Disney Castle at Neuschwanstein among other fabulous places. Bavaria, including Munich, is awesome.
My Audi A4 sedan came with a GPS --- but I used my own Garmin C340 (with the chip for Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republic and Austria). I suggest you email the Munich AVIS location to specifically request the GPS.
Liability Insurance is included --- as is the ubiquitous "rip-off" VAT that is added to the rental price. I found the AVIS rates reasonable and even got a free-day using AWD#H210200. I usually use A451300 (AOPA) or D005297 (Amateur Sports Assistance Program) codes.
Vergnügen Sie sich in Deutschland.

EDIT: My bad. I didn't notice the June date of your OP --- and I just noticed your post from yesterday. Glad you had a good trip. I was so thrilled by my recent Germany visit that I pounced on the opportunity to reply to your OP.
