As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

In the future if people make posts of the nature of "I need advice on a code, I tried all the other ones and they didn't work for my date/location/car class/whatever" I think they should include, at a minimum,

dates
car class
location
ALL the other codes they have tried along with the rate each of those codes gave

This will not only help people on this thread be more helpful, but I think a lot of us are more inclined to help those who have already shown that they've made some effort to help themselves, and simply saying "I tried all the codes and none of them worked" is frankly a little questionable considering how often the claim is made here. Not calling out anyone in particular, just saying what would make ME more likely to spend 2 minutes trying to help someone out.

Cheers

I believe I've tried basically every code on the last 5-10 pages. Thanks.

I seriously doubt that you would find any effective coupons for that particular type of vehicle at that particular location. My guess is that SXM stocks almost no full size or luxury crossover suv's, and because of that there will be little, if any, discounting available. As a matter of fact, since it is such a small island, and since it is predominately a leisure destination, and not a business destination, you might not find any coupons or discounts that will work for SXM, although I could be wrong about that last point. Just my guess. YMMV.

Appreciate the response, and yes I am kind of figuring the latter since none of the codes had any effect on the pricing of any type of vehicle, not just the ones I am looking for.

I concur. If cost is your primary motivation then you are probably better off not using Avis for this trip. From carrentals.com it looks like Dollar has a full size SUV for ~210 Euros including all taxes, some 100 Euros less than Avis for those dates. Hotwire doesn't even come up with anything at SXM.

In general, I would think that SXM would be a hard get for just about anything over a full size car, especially for the rental car companies which cater to business travelers, such as Avis, National, and Hertz, but possibly less so for the companies which cater to leisure travelers, such as Budget, Alamo, and Dollar/Thrifty. You might also check some of the real off brands, such as Advantage, Payless, and since it is a colony of a European country, even Sixt. Check carrentals.com, autoslash.com, Orbitz, Priceline, and Kayak, and then you will really know where the cheapest deal is. Again though, your choices for full size or luxury suv's might be limited anyway.

You should get a decent deal eventually, but like mentioned above, your choices arent going to be big.

I tried this and a bunch of codes for a one-way SF to LA rental for a week. I can't find anything thats under $600 that doesn't have $0.38+ mileage charges. The best i've found was $209 +$0.38/mi with the citi leisure rate. Anyone have any luck on anything that includes mileage and isnt over $400 for the week?

The most important thing that you can do is divide your rental into two parts, with two different cars and two different rental agreements. The first part is your one way rate, because why pay a high daily one way rate when you are just driving around locally? The second part is your local rate, after you turn in the car you drove from SFO to LAX, and where you will have a much lower rate, with no mileage charges, for just driving around locally in the LAX area.

Have you tried A972200 for the one way rate?

Thanks for the helpful info. I never thought about doing a one way to la then rent locally. for this trip I'm going to be using the one way most of the time - stopping in Big sur and Santa Barbara for a 4 day trip + 2days in LA. That farmers code is pretty good - only $0.25/mile and now I've got that as a backup. The A113400 code is giving me the same deal, but unlimited miles. Anyone else use that code recently?

Avis South San Francisco to LAX, $362.96 including all taxes, unlimited miles, economy car, October 20 to 27.

Bookable via carrentals.com.

You're welcome.

P.S. The A113400 is only for State of Florida employees and apparently IS regularly checked - do you have proof that you are one?

I've been using this site for several years and finally I have something to contribute.

B908200 Seems to be affiliated with Jackson Travel. I haven't personally used it yet but seems to give decent rates.

Usirritated is right you should be able to get a better rate locally, and stay away from airports if possible, they have higher rates and charge you extra charges

try this AwD B021615 from Walmart, I got 311 for a week in oakland to LA,

Deal! The FatWallet code said it was Hawaii Bar Association. Should I file this under too good to be true? I also see that www.discounthawaiicarrental.com has same vehicle for about $20 more. They seem to be reputable from what I have found online. Anyone have any input on either of these codes? I have a confimred reservation with Enterprise for $225 for Intermediate and I like Enterprise due to allowance of spouse as driver for no fee, but thanks to FT I found Avis/Budget allow the same.

Also, due to length of rental the coupon MUAA046 would give me 1750 AA miles. Do they add the .75/day for this at the rental counter? I don't mind using this coupon instead of $ coupon as almost all $ coupons are not eligible in Hawaii.
Thanks for the code. I was able to use this and saved about $40 for my upcoming 3-day weekend rental in HNL.

Sharing my experience. A972200 (apparently Farmer's code) does NOT earn frequent flyer points. I was told by Avis upon enquiring for few of my rentals which did not accrue miles, that A972200 is for Zurich insurance, and they have blocked frequent flyer miles to be earned on rentals using that AWD.
