Avis PC is question

I’m fairly new to Avis. My first rental was at PHL last Feb and I had to go to the counter (was told PHL doesn’t have the app select choice. I have a reservation for TPA today and I logged on the app and it says to go to the counter. I thought having PC you skip all that and you pick your car from the app. I have been using National for years and have EE and have a backup reservation there, but Avis was much cheaper. Thanks

Update

So I got to the airport and since I have a new credit card on file, I had to go to the counter. Pick up was very smooth and they gave me a choice of three Chevy equinox ( I asked for something else and they said that’s all they had available) I went out to the lot and saw a brand new Mazda CX 50 hybrid parked between the sea of equinox so I went back and asked if I could take that, and the woman rolled her eyes and said the equinox was an upgrade (I had reserved an intermediate suv and the equinox is classified as standard)and gave me the keys for it. The car has 700 miles and I was very impressed based on all the horror story I’ve been hearing from people.

Avis pick via the app is basically useless... so expect to have to go to the counter most of the time.

If the app actually works and gives you a choice, it'll likely be a couple limited selections of bleh vehicles.

I rented from TPA recently and the process was fully automated from start to finish in the app...zero human intervention until I tried to use the wrong lane to exit by mistake and the lone person in the garage yelled at me to get in the correct late to scan my QR code lol.

Now I'm sure for that to work everything needs to be up to date in your profile...current DL, valid CC, etc.. Anything that's not lining up will result in you having to go to the counter and waste time in line.

I've had the app QR code work, but it had pre-assigned me a vehicle and was no option to change or 'upgrade' unless I wanted to take a pickup truck instead...

Had to go to the counter for the first time in a while at PHX a couple weeks ago. Usually they preassigned a vehicle for me, but not this time.
